Aloha from another ATC wannabe
Posted: 08-20-2009, 12:43 AM Hi there, I applied and just received my AT-SAT test authorization on the ASAP system. So now I'm digging around for what to expect, I'm glad I found this place.
I have to say, it's all quite overwhelming and a bit scary. I'm going the route (can't remember the name) where I go in as a nobody civilian and take the test and go to the school in OK. I'm really concerned about the credit check. I applied to the TSA last year and passed everything they threw at me and all my interviews, but I was rejected to poor credit. I had purchased a business w/my BF and lost my job and had to let a lot of bills go to collection, basically royalling screwing myself up for a long time. Is there a way to get a waiver or exception for poor credit? I'm really excited about this opportunity. I wish I had applied a long time ago when my friend first suggested it to me. Oh, and one other question. I'm currently 29, my birthday is in June. Is the 30 year old hire deadline as of passing the test, entering the school, or receiving an official offer? I would hate to miss the deadline ![]() Again, I'm sorry for the questions, I'm still perusing all the FAQs and forums and thought I may just try my hand and asking some ![]() Thanks for any info or pushing me in the right direction, and I look forward to getting to know you on this great board! |

Re: Aloha from another ATC wannabe
Posted: 08-20-2009, 01:39 AM Hello, and welcome to stuck mic. Its a loooooooooong process, but misery has lots of company here on SM.
The process you are going is officially the PUBNAT (public - national ) process, sometimes we also refer to it as OTC (off the street) If you are concerned about your credit take hold of it now. Call your collectors and set up payments you can stick to. You have plenty of time b/t now and the credit check, so when you get there if you can show that you are making a responsible effort to resolve your debt you will have a better chance at things. The security personnel recognize it is a tough economy right now and many people have been hit by hardship. Your burden is to prove that you are not a security risk who abandons debt, but that you take ownership of your mistakes and try to earnestly resolve them. 31, the magic number is 31. You want to have your TOL (tentative offer letter) in YOUR HANDS, by your 31st birthday. There have been plenty of close calls on that shared here on SM. Dig around and you will find them. |

Re: Aloha from another ATC wannabe
Posted: 08-21-2009, 12:20 AM Please ask ALLLL the questions you want... repeat questions don't bother most controllers do to the fact we are so used to doing it on a daily basis. Also Niagra meant to say OTS "sometimes we also refer to it as OTC (off the street)". So whenever you see the term OTS they are talking about the individuals that are going your route. Welcome to Stuckmic and happy posting
