Hello from Kansas City!
Posted: 10-31-2009, 07:38 PM

Hello All,

My name is Luke *******, I'm 24 and live in Kansas City, MO. I am new to the site and so far it has been very helpful. I plan to apply in the next pubnat. I am very eager to do anything that would help my chances of being accepted sooner, so if you have any ideas please let me know. I'm extremely motivated and excited to become an air traffic controller! I look forward to meeting many controllers through this site.

With the time frame it takes to get hired OTS, combined with the odds probably not being in your favor for that route, if I were in your place knowing what I know now... I would consider the possibility of CTI. It'll cost a little bit more, and may increase your total timeframe by a little bit (although not that much if you're able to do one of the one-year places), but increases the chance that you'll make it in by a ton.

Peruse some of the CTI threads here for more on that if you're interested. Just my two cents, of course.

Welcome to the site.

Welcome to Stuckmic Luke. I'm with Rossta on this one. I'm sure you're enthusiastic about wanting a career in ATC, so if you want the best chance of getting a job offer consider the CTI route. I dont look at the extra money as something you should even blink an eye at. You are making an investment in your future that will have a big return. Good luck with whatever you decide. Have fun poking around the site!

Yeah. Think about how the return compares with most college degrees, even just for a bachelor's. Even if you stay in a lower rated facility, the return on your investment on all but the more expensive CTI schools (Riddle, LeTourneau, North Dakota) is great. You can be making six figures in less than ten years on a CTI degree that can cost you only a few grand if you play your cards right. Not that you should really look at it that way, I don't think, but still.

Contrast that to my stupid private liberal arts degree that got me into a career which burned me out in three years. Don't worry about CTI costs.
