The current hiring plan stated 1800 vras in job pool. Just looked it up.
Good info. I finally found a hiring plan to read:

http://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publi...a/CWP_2009.pdf

So, a big amount of controllers right now are 48-49. However, 33 percent retire within one year that they are eligeable for it, so that's good.

it doesn't matter, they aren't forced into retirement... they retire when they want to, i think there's a max age and time limit, but if 31 is the cut off, add 20 and thats 51... and again, since the economy is a result of a bunch of morons in the government, they prolly wont retire right away. They should let ATCers be govt. officials, at least ATCers have common sense...

I was told (not by a manager, but a 20yr cpc) that you can... he said "dont ya think the FAA would rather pay YOUR overtime pay than mine?" Made good fiscal sense to me... why pay some old dude 150/hour when they can pay me 45.

I think what that guy meant when he said "2/3rds are not qualified" is those appling under the VRA Announcement don't have a cto, approach ticket indicated on a dd-214, or even radar final from a shore station (not thats a big deal). In short no signatures on a pink card and no cto card or number, is what I think he was getting at. But experienced or not as long as you posses a pink card for 52 weeks your chances of getting picked up are just as good as any. We all have to go back to school anyways. Now the experiencewill help while going through the school house, and those with it will have a leg up to any of the cti or ots dudes. Unless I'm wrong--
