Taking DOD job with FAA TOL

I got a TOL for the FAA back in July 2009. I just recently took a DOD job and since they moved me across county, I owe them at least 1 year. I plan on staying 1-3 years even if offered a FAA class date. I'm thinking I should email my HR rep and tell him I'm not interested in the FAA at the moment. Im under 31. Do you think I could get into the FAA say...2 or 3 yrs down the road. Will they "black list" me and is there anything I could make up to still be considered in the future??

You will not be blacklisted. You will, however, have to start the hiring process all over again. And as you can see, the DoD is a tad quicker at it.

Simply pass on the class date and ask if you can remain on the list. You will pass your 1 year and possible stay on the list for when you are ready.

My FAA tol was a higher level fac at a location that was less desirable, the DOD is kind of a prime location. I think I should decline now so I can apply for different states next year. Plus I wouldn't mind getting my probation and 3 year timeframe over while I wait and keep options open.

Your DOD job will take care of you the age limit, but you will still have to complete a probational period with the FAA. Your year probation with the DOD will not transfer.

Last I heard as a 2152 controller in the DoD, if you complete the probationary period with the DoD it will carry over into the FAA.

A co-worker of mine started DoD, then FAA, and now DoD again and has had to complete the year probation each time.

This is what I have heard. I guess the 3 year mark is important as well, for both DOD and FAA. Maybe someone can post a reg with the official answer.

So completing your 1 year probationary period does not clear you from an FAA probation period? That don't sound right. I thought after 1 year in federal service clears you of all other probational periods throughout the federal service? Can someone confirm? Does your sf-50 change after completing 1 year probational period of federal service? Help..
