VA GI Bill for FAA OJT
Posted: 08-12-2008, 07:04 PM

Heard it was possible. Dont know if anyone is or has used it on here that would be willing to share some light on the subject. I wont be getting into the FAA for a while so I am trying to hash out all the details that will make my transition from service to freedom an easy one. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the triple post but also check out the NATCA.com website. There is valuable info there on forms and what not that need to get filled out to start receiving VA benefits.

I have successfully recieved VA benefits. My case was a little bit different because, when I first started training it was not yet authorized to get your GI Bill while in training, they were calling it double dipping. But as of Jan of 2007 it has been official. The first thing you need to do is have a start date, then fill out the appropriate form which can be done online. If you were active duty I believe it is the va-1990. Once its accepted they will mail you a benefits break down. Starting from day one you will recieve 75% of a full time student pay for the first 6 months. After that it will drop to 55% for the next 6. If Anyone is in training now and seeking a back payment the process is the same and you will recieve upto one year of back pay which was my case. As long as you work a minimum of 120 hours per month you are full time under the OJT/Apprentiship program. Any other questions or specifics feel free to ask

it's direct deposit cash. You can do what you want with it. The sad part is that the FAA should pay you enough, so you shouldn't have to worry about such things. It's a sad state of affairs that we are in right now. Unfortunately, I don't see any answers in the near future. Air traffic controllers are going to have to learn an additional skill in this occupation; Hustling to survive!

I'm hoping to get some back pay...already completed training, but after I took the time to get my facility up to "snuff" on what was going on, and they did all the training, filled out my paperwork and such, I turned my stuff in and the VA wrote me back saying that my facility wasn't approved and they needed to fill out some more paperwork....so hopefully after over a year of being checked out, I might get some monies.
