at any time do i get to pick?
Posted: 08-08-2009, 03:30 PM just a "newb" question here, at anytime in the VRA process do we get to select "preferred" facilities or do we just pick the state in our application and are offered a facility if chosen?
another question i know networking can help people get facilities they want, and i'm already planning on doing that, should i start calling before making referral lists (assuming i make it) or after the list and before selection panels? thanks for reading and any input you may have |

calling can not hurt. i just thought about where i wanted to go, really, really, really, hard. and i prayed. so obviously that helped. |

yeah i plan on calling just wondering if i should wait till i make referral list or before? and if anyone had any contact info for TPA, PBI, ORD, anything middle to southern florida would be great. Thanks again for your time |

Posted: 08-08-2009, 04:32 PM When I was hired on (2008) I initially selected a state. Once I was selected for that state I was sent a form with all the FAA facilities in that state and was asked to rank them from 1-3 in order of preference.
I got my number 1. |

Posted: 08-08-2009, 05:09 PM I applied on the old form, where you could put center FIRST over term... so my 1st choice was indy Center.
Then had to reapp with just STATE choces (two)... and put Indiana, California. I then toured Indy Center thought it went well, got a good referal from a friend of family. I'm now headed to Cali, for a tracon. lol. Oh well. |

Posted: 08-08-2009, 10:29 PM Networking works, I was able to get where I wanted to be by doing it. Are you a prior-experience VRA? if so that helps a lot. The local managers can usually "request" you.

yeah i'm prior-atc (i guess you could say still active atc....still ad navy till march 2010)....anyways i got tracon and cto so i'm hoping that gives me a fighting shot. i would absolutely love to have an academy date prior to march.....i know that's not realistic but a man can dream can't he? |

Posted: 08-10-2009, 01:40 PM I've heard its hit or miss, sometimes networking works sometimes it don't .. you just have to make such an impression that the ATM doesn't forget your name and who you are .. Then they have to actually request you or put in a good word so depending on how busy the facility you are trying to go to is they might not have the time or just forget altogether.
