Deployed to Iraq!! Interview Question
Posted: 09-23-2009, 03:00 PM I will be leaving to Iraq around the end of October. I have applied for the VRA Sep 30 en route job opening for when I depart the military July 25, 2010. I was hoping to be hired with a class date in August.
Can anyone give me some tips? If they want to hire me, do I have to have an interview? I will be in Iraq till April 2010, can they do it via conference call? Will I have to wait till I get back to the states to do the interview and get the job? I really would like to start the school once I am out of the military and not sit around for 1-6 months. Like most of us, we have a family to support. Any advice would help! Thank you! |

Re: Deployed to Iraq!! Interview Question
Posted: 09-29-2009, 05:49 PM I believe when they call/email (email in your case) to give you your FOL/Class date, you can turn it down and request another one for big reasons.
IE: BornToControl (the jets avatar guy) just got offered a class date, but had to turn it down because he is still in the military. In my opinion, which is moderately worthless in this situation, I just stay the course and wait till they said they def are interested in me b4 I bust out the news. Worst case is you will just have to re-apply in the VRA app that should come out in say.... December. |

Re: Deployed to Iraq!! Interview Question
Posted: 09-29-2009, 09:33 PM There is what they call a PEPC (Pre-Employment Processing Center) that you will get an invite for. On this anouncement, you will prob miss the PEPC and have to go the traditional route for your interview. Scan the site for info on both routes of interview. Anyway, the interview portion of the employment process on the traditional route can be done with your local FAA facility manager when you return.
Definately work closely with your HR rep when you get picked up so you don't lose the first opportunity. I'm in your boat too. In Baghdad now, and out of military in April. |

Re: Deployed to Iraq!! Interview Question
Posted: 09-30-2009, 02:39 PM I applied to PUBNAT # whatever in August of 2007. I received a TOL at the Chicago PEPC in May of 2008. I had to turn down a class date for November of 2008 due to being deployed to Iraq. I am returning from my deployment in a few months and hope to finally start school in 2010. This is what I have learned.
1. The FAA will not accept anything but FAA processes for your application packet. 2. I have to redo my medical and security clearance since it has been so long, case n point...they will not schedule me for a class until I take the FAA physical again. They will not accept even a more stringent military physical or security clearance. 3. Yes, you will have to wait, as I have, because you being hired is contingent upon completion of not only the AT-SAT and interview, but your medical, psychological, and drug testing along with your security clearance. All must be done via FAA channels. Sorry for the bad news my friend, but it is not as simple as an interview. The interview is actually the easiest part of the whole process and in my opinion is simply a formality. The good news, however, is that my TOL from May of 2008 is still good since I have been deployed this whole time. |
