This weeks Panel
Posted: 10-27-2009, 09:38 AM

First off got referred to TX, so trying to increase the chances of getting a location that is preferred by the family, hoping for the DFW area.

Talked to a hiring manager for ZFW yesterday, I'm going to try and relay what she said without screwing it up too much so take it with a grain of salt.

She said that ZFW already has 100 bodies line up and 10 more for 2010 so I pretty much wouldn't have a chance of going to FW Center. Then she said the panels are on Wed and Thurs this week and are Terminal only, the next Center panel will be after the first of the year. Then she gave to the advice of not settling for a location unless I'm willing to be there for quite a while. She explained that transfers happen but not often, I would be much more likely to get a trade. But for that to happen you have to find someone that wants what you have, and I've seen how often it happened in the AF.

Anyway good luck to all, looking forward to seeing what offers come.

Appreciate the info relay. Any clue if that applies to Texas only, or if it is FAA wide?

My impression from her was that it was nationwide, Terminal this panel, Centers after the new year. Still remains to be seen, I wouldn't be surprised to be proven wrong.

I take Terminal any day of the week and twice on Sunday... This is good news to me. I didn't want center but if offered I'll take it.

I would take terminal any day of the week also... but this is bad in that it limits our hiring chances... centers hire the most people... no centers at the panels = less chance of gettin picked up...

So, you mean to say that there are more people working at all of the ARTCCs, than at all of the terminal facilities (Towers/TRACONs)??? Depending on what states you have chosen, that could be the case. But, I think the total number of possible places to go are much higher in the Terminals.

If your goal was to get selected by an enroute facility, and you have the time to wait (i.e. not close to the age cutoff), then do it. Find an odd job, and wait for what you want. If not, cross your fingers and hope you get picked for anything.

I've personally been out of the military since early February. I've been drawing UI, ever since. I'll be 31 the end of November. So, any offer that I get...you can best believe I'll be very thankful!!

just my 2c

Good Luck EVERYONE (just don't take my job!!)
