ASAP App - Work History
Posted: 10-29-2009, 03:02 PM

First of all, great forum with tons of information! I'm working on my ASAP application for a VRA position.

Any pointers/advice on filling in the "Work History" portion of the ASAP applications? For you AF guys, did you use the "Key Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities" from EPRs? Is it best to use bullet format or write it in a narrative statement? Anyone include ATC deployments in excess of 179 as experience?

Now for everyone's favoritve AF question...is it best if you use all the space? It asks for a brief explanation and limits you to 4,000 characters. That's not brief to me!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I sorta combined the bullet statement/complete thought format. Basically, my sentences read like bullets, but in paragraph form. I took up a lot of space in my stateside experience (about 3000-3500 characters), and I did include deployed experience as well. Heck, it's 2 more facilities of experience for me, so why not?

I used a lot of the same descriptions from key duties and tasks that I have listed on my USAjobs resume. I included some personal touches as well, things that are unique to my experiences that may stand out a little.

I know people that had much less written on their descriptions than I, and they got picked up. I guess as long as you can show that you are what you are, thats all that's important.

Okay another question about this. For work history, if you have a few bases with a few RAPC/CTOs did you open up a new "additional work experience" outline and list out each base with your accomplishments EPR bullet style or did you just put all your experience and bases in the first outline form?

Yes, add new work history. Do not include every different assignment under the same experience window. You list the dates of each assignment, and then fill out the description.

Now, if your questions is: If you had dual qual's (CTO/RADAR) at the same place during an assignment, then you would describe that under the same duties/experience window.

I used EPR's with a lot of my own stuff thrown in, and I did separate work experience for each base I had ratings at, including my 5 months in Iraq.

Okay, but for employer name and address did you just put _____RAPCON/Tower with the facility address or just the base address with USAF as the employer? Thanks for the info.

I put my work experience at the cardboard factory. It was pretty stressful because I did not make enough to pay the bills.
