It was one of the first computer/flight strip printing operations they tried in the center. You would have had to have been working in the center.

    When was this?

In 1975, when I hired into the FAA, the Centers, like the Terminal sites, were using Flight Data Entry and Printout (FDEP) which was a system based on the IBM Selectric Printer. The only difference between Center and Terminal was the size of the strips.

now there's some practical experience there. those pieces of **** thermal strips are worthless. u need a special pen or else you'll scribble for hours trying to make things legible.

i didn't have to do URET at OKC. we did ours in stage III at our facility. it's better that way cuz u can do it in 2 days at your facility instead of 2 weeks at OKC. they probably figured that out is why they changed it.

haha we got the new thermal ones in the air force toothings, ballpoints dont want to write on them and the felt tips smear. I'v given up and just make to only grab them in blocks 12/15 where we dont write anything.

I also miss the old dot matrix printer since you could tell what was printing just by what it sounded like

too true. the thing that sucked though is you had to fold them back and forth and back and forth and back and forth, then if u didn't have fingernails u were screwed.

That's the real purpose of the handoff position...to blow on the strips till they dry.

    Re: Flight strips information

Yeah, the cheap-o white ball points are fine for as long as they write. But felt or the heavy ink roller ball pens will smear badly if not allowed to dry fully.

That sucks cause it's much easier to see the felt markings in the control room.

    Re: Flight strips information

yea...i usually have to change pens during the day because they stop writing.

i agree the felt markings are easier to see...but concur with the fact that they smear
