Re: Enroute Map and Non-Radar Problems

It would seem weird to be fired for studying material that is givin to us in our CTI programs. We use the same airspace and LOA's as the Academy at UAA and many other CTI schools are the same. If they were fired it was for something else there not saying.

Exactly. CCBC gave us the same maps. Impossible to get fired for that. I think they are either not telling the whole story..or are full of crap

I have to agree with deltabravo89 and SCOPED. The first year we're there we're in a probationary period. I think it more likely that those that were fired ticked the wrong person off on the wrong day (or multiple days) than that they possessed study materials the FAA approved school gave them. I've known plenty of people from CCBC as well that made it through the Academy just fine, studying the stuff they gave us in school. Most likely no explanation was given (at least to the general populace) for the reason they were terminated and people just speculated.

Re: Enroute Map and Non-Radar Problems

They're not talking about CTI materials. They're talking about Academy materials. I know that they tell you in your schools "Oh, these are the same things they use in the Academy." No, they're not. They're similar, based on the same stuff, but it's not permitted (possibly illegal, don't recall) for them to just lift the Academy materials wholesale. In the cover of every lesson plan, there's a note about it. When you get there, you can take a look for yourself.

A lot of the material is taken from the .65, including quotes and graphics. That's all free to use -- public domain, actually -- so you'll see plenty of similarities. The map is out there so much that I guess they don't really care about that one. Besides, it's based on a real sector anyway... it's not like they're guarding confidential trade secrets.

Anyway, use your brain. If somebody's dumb enough to stroll in with a binder full of lesson plans that a friend gave them, they're probably making other stupid decisions, too. Don't get yourself in trouble for things that aren't worth it.

So Rosta since you just got done with the academy and your material is fresh can I just send you my address and you give me all your stuff? Then I can send it to three people I know and so on. You know, now that you’re a Developmental and don’t know crap.

Absolutely. Also, I'm planning on starting a new thread where I'll liveblog whenever presidential aircraft are in my airspace and exactly what fix they're over.

Not to piss on your Cherrios, but we had someone with 4 separation errors who passed their non-radar eval.

And Rossta, dont forget you also have to include all applicable landing sites on that "info-share" haha.

There's a particularly sensitive military installation in my area. I was reading the LOA with them today. It says in bolded capitals that we do not have a need to know what goes on there. Think they'd let us visit for a TDY or something?

Hey, when I was in that stupid little aviation class at CCHS I got to do a tour of NORAD which until recently didnt exist

I say go for it. I would imagine it goes something like this:

Rossta: "Hi, Im the new ZLA floor-bitch. I want to come check out your alien craft"
Base commander: "Certainly we would love to pencil that in, but we dont exist."
R: "Well, I was reading an LOA since your base is in my airspace"
BC: "Did you read the part that says no aircraft shall fly within 100 miles of my base?"
R: "Yes. I will certainly make sure that one is committed to memory. So really, when may I visit your base?"
    BC: "What base?"
R: "Um... The one I just told you about the LOA with."
    BC: "What LOA?"
    - Some short period of time later Rossta gets a sharp searing pain in the throat, wakes up 26 floors beneath the surface and finds Will Smith ready to strap his ass to the coolest thing ever to fly, on his way to blow the F out of the mothership.

Re: Enroute Map and Non-Radar Problems

I absolutely will try that out and advise.

On a related note, I was reading about some of the towns around there while trying to fall asleep last night... you know, to help visualize what pilots are flying over and all that. One place was Rachel, NV, just down the road from Groom Lake. I was looking at it in Google Maps and... wait... is that... just northeast of the intersection?

On the Map test is it a totally blank map, even the Degrees of airways like all the ones around JAN? It is not a big deal just curious.

The only items on the blank map for you are the sector boundaries, approach control boundaries and the Navaids. Everything else you need to draw.

I had to do all the maps for ZAN because I working flight data. It is true that this map will be the easiest map ever. I had a victor airway map that had more information under my thumb then this entire map.

Yeehaw I got a 99.5 on the ZME map test at ERAU, hopefully it'll be easy to refresh...I REALLY do not want to work at a center, I couldn't imagine having to know the airspace of 5 different sectors

5 is an easy area. Some at ZAU have as many as 8 sectors.

That is awful. We didn't have to learn any radials on our maps, thank god.
