    -DUI-

    Hello,

I'm writing to you all to get an understanding of your most recent DUI cases and what the FAA, your flight surgeon, and Union did to/for you.

How long have you or others been off the floor for? Have you or others lost your medical and security? What has your Union Rep done to help you? How has your flight surgeon handled the DUI? I do not believe if I were at NYC or OAK I would have lost my med/sec for this long.

Any thoughts and avenues to explore please let me know. I've got nothing but time sitting in the front office trying to look busy.

    Thanks

We had 2 people in my area get DUI’s in the last 2 years or so. One was off the floor for 6 months, and one for a little over a year.

It has nothing to do with the "idiots" that you're not working yet. It's all on you.
Telling people it's "your first dui" doesn't help your case any...it's like you're telling people you're expecting to have more.
In any case, this is your second substance offense.

It's not your reps' jobs to help you...it's their job to represent you according to the standards set forth in the CBA and FAA code of conduct.

NATCA has very little control over what the flight surgeon or security clearance examiners do, and yes, a DUI will cost you both your medical and security clearances anywhere in the country.

I assume that you've had to sign a last chance agreement to keep your job. Don't test the FAA on that.

NovemberEcho, thanks for the timeline. Looks like I'm right on track with everyone else then.

Yeah, being in NY or anywhere else has no bearing on what happens. It's a national policy, and nobody is getting preferential treatment based on location, or anything else. Like NovemberEcho said the two controllers in the EWR area that got caught last couple of years both were off the floor about a full year or so, not to mention that it seems like they're getting tested constantly. Definitely don't get caught a second time, and stay out of any other trouble for the remainder of your career!
