    Illegal interview questions

Any thoughts on illegal interview questions

    Ex.
Can they ask, what your hobbies are?

How long are you willing to stay with us, since training takes at least 2 years to become a journeyman?

Sound like pretty reasonable questions. I wouldn't expect to hear any illegal questions. But hey, I'm still waiting on CIL...

I have no idea what is deemed legal or not.... BUT.... You can answer the "how long will you be with us" question however you want really... They can't really hold you to anything you say in answer to that, and are limited in ability to... But note you will have a 1 year probation period if you haven't served a 1 year civilian federal probation period before.... So careful in how you approach it... Hate for you to make an enemy and get let go of... They don't need a reason to let you go while on probation...

    Re: Illegal interview questions

Ya. I didn't think they were illegal. I just know the whole hiring process can be frustrating. Every time I interview, I always wonder if they already have someone slated for the spot and they are just going through the motions. A big waste of time for both parties in my opinion. Suprisingly in my current federal job, I had no interview, nor did anyone else I work with. I think the manager is betting on if you pass probation. After all, to work where I work, you have to move on your own dime and the cost of living is high (high turnover)

About the only "illegal" or improper question I could imagine would be related to religion or politics...otherwise why sweat it.

    Re: Illegal interview questions

Years ago I had a detective ask me if I had ever raped anyone during a panel interview for a 911 dispatch position. I think being asked about your hobbies wouldn't be so bad in the grand scheme of things.
