    Lewis University

Hi, just checking to see if anyone is attending Lewis this fall for ATC? I was accepted and I'm considering enrolling.

Also, does anyone have any personal input regarding the program?

    Re: Lewis University

I considered transferring to Lewis this Fall but decided to stay with my original school for this next year. When I talked to the head director of air traffic I heard a lot of great things. Their simulators should be set up in the next month or so, and I also hear that the students enrolled in the program must intern. They intern with O'Hare Tower, Midway Tower, and ZAU. That is AMAZING. So good luck with everything and I hope you enjoy it.

I'm headed to Lewis this fall. Any practical advice or remarks that might be of use to the newbie?

Click on the CTI Schools tab at the top of the page and find LU. There's probably some reviews about the school, and they may or may not have useful info.

I don't know anything about Lewis per say, but I do see the interns on a pretty regular basis. I know some people at the center went there as well.

    Re: Lewis University

I graduated from Lewis December 2010. The program is great. I was an intern at C90 under Al Qualiardi, the number 2 there. I also had the chance to talk with new recruits going there as their first facility. Neither of them made it, needless to say.

I would recommend doing your Gen-eds at a CC first...everything that will transfer. I also suggest getting your pilot license first, this help me immensely. The program is EXPENSIVE for all 4 years. Just a heads up. All the staff in the department is great, though it is HARDER than hard once you get in your final year and your teachers are current or retired controllers.

One of my teachers was the managing supervisor at MDW. The other was a hard ass retiree from C90. His name is Doc...if you have ever heard stories from C90, he's the guy the is involved with them all someway or another :-). I also had a great teacher from ZAU. He's about ready to retire.

The current controllers and recently retired gave me what I need to get a step up from all the other schools. Bummer is that I've been graduated for over 8 months now and no job in sight.

What's up man, I graduated from Lewis so I know a bit about it if you have any questions. Most practical advice I can give is when you start taking the more in-depth ATC courses that are taught by controllers, do well and impress them. Getting a job is all about networking and who you know, find the right people and get in good with them. You will do an internship towards the end, take it seriously and make the most out of it.

I graduated May 2010 and got a TOL for Chicago Midway in 1 year. Do well in your classes, make the most of your internship, and build relationships with the controllers and managers you will meet and you will be successful.

ZAU is now going to be doing internships for the Lewis students, not sure if this is something new. I've never seen any around. I was told they'll be at the facility for 120 hours for one of their classes. You guys are probably going to become ghost pilots
