    Re: Changes to AT-CTI Program

Vaughns online program so was easy it was crazy. Compared to my undergraduate degree it was a joke. But it did give me the golden ticket to OKC. I will just have to work alot harder than those who had better training prior to OKC. If they rank schools I would assume Vaughn would be somewhere near the bottom.

I take it, since you're now working on your bachelors, that you haven't been hired yet. Only people who have actually been through the academy can talk about what type of practical skills are actually required there. There were two ERAU grads in my class. One was really cool and a great friend who I studied with a lot. He specifically said that ERAU was a lot different than the academy. The other ERAU grad failed.
My 2 cents... ERAU is a money sucking pit...

So this probably won't be implemented for a while? I went to LOLcommunity college because I couldn't afford the higher rates.

I went to the best ATC school, the US Air Force, with the 4th busiest and 2nd most complex (stateside) base to get rated. Got paid to do it too. =)

And I didn't even go to embry for cti. I went to broward college, which is a great cti school with new enroute, radar and tower simulator labs with current software used at actual FAA facilities. I did my research, earned my degree from a well qualified school and did it for free.

Maybe you should of done some research beforehand.
Well I firmly believe that it shouldn't be a situation in which you can buy your way in. Embry Riddle gets all the $ from the ridiculous tuition they charge. I think the FAA would agree as well because they only allow the CTI schools to teach so much anyways... even if it's for a different reason. Be glad you went to community college, I did too. I feel like I got just as good an education as anywhere else. Although I won't be graduating for 2 more weeks yet. I guess I won't really know until I end up at the Academy.

The educational difference between Riddle and Vaughn is like watching Chuck Norris pummel a third grade girl

8k got me a degree (in last semester) at BC and they have full simulation Terminal/Enroute. before the rule went into effect all teachers for core classes were current controllers, now they have retired ones. who needs Embry Riddle its a rip.

Any other type of college has their programs ranked, why shouldn't CTI programs? I did my research beforehand and decided NOT to go with Vaughn for the sole reason that there are no sims.

I'm thinking the same thing-- what's wrong with ranking schools for their CTI programs? I think this should have been done already! If I have a degree from Stanford in basket weaving and I'm applying to the best basket weaving company in the world, I would want them to look at my transcripts and say, "wow... she graduated from a top notch school that has a top notch and difficult basket weaving program." Same thing with my under grad and grad work (FL Tech, Embry Riddle)-- damn right I want somebody to look at them and recognize the caliber of institution and it's aeronautics program I went through.

I agree with what they're doing, but I do believe they should grandfather people in who are graduating from the institutions they are not considering highly ranked. It should start with new students/freshmen AFTER these changes are instated. It really would not be fair to people graduating next year to have all of this happen.

Edit to add-- I'm not talking about ranking schools like saying the most expensive ones are the best. I've heard great things about Beaver. You can definitely get the prep and excellent education you need at places without spending a butt ton of money. I wish I would have known that before starting my undergrad 10 years ago! lol

Yea... FL Tech is right there too! It's outrageous now a days how much they are charging for that place. I'm glad I got in a little before the hikes!

my 2 cents "an opinion is like a butt hole everyone has one and they stink."

Yes everyone knows college is not cheap, at least everyone has a degree in something. and yes one program may be better or more sophisticated then another with top of the line simulators but its not about how you learn it, were you learn it and how much you spent to learn it. It all will come down to how well you are going to do at the academy when you get there. if you are going to have the drive to learn the information the way they want you to learn it to pass the academy and move on in the process.
