    GS 2152 Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    Is obstructive Sleep Apnea waiverable for initial applicants seeking GS 2152 positions as long as they are recieving treatment?
    If so, how difficult is the process, and do the requirements vary between the services?

    The medical requirements for the GS2152 series under neurological conditions says: “An applicant under any form of treatment, including preventive treatment, of any disease of the nervous system, is disqualified”.

    Is this waiverable for initial applicants, or current 2152’s only? Does it matter if the OSA occurred during military service and the applicant has a VA disibility rating from it?

    Any info on this subject is appreciated.

    I work with a GS 2152 controller who was diagnosed with OSA while in the AF and got out and got the job. Unless something has changed, it should be possible.

    Thanks for the reply. Do you mind telling me what branch of service you work for and roughly how long ago he was hired? I’m curious if the medical requirements are different between the services. I’ve found the information about sleep apnea in the Navy/Marine Corps aeromedical reference and waiver guide that references DoD civilian controllers; however I haven’t found any similar information for sleep apnea for the Army or Air Force.

    Trying to find some solid information I can reference and be certain of before I report my symptoms to medical. I’d like to be treated and have it documented, but not if it is going to disqualify me from DoD employment.

    Yes it is wavierable. You have to make sure you are using your machine every day. When I worked for the Navy, I had to get a Wakefulness test done.

    The wakefulness test isn’t required for the Army.

    If you are in compliance the wavier doesn’t take that long.
