But, I'm sure that any 11+ are all going to take many years, so the horror stories/long training time don't bother me. I plan on taking a tour soon, when I do, I'll pass on any info I get.

If you have any questions about the city, ask away.
Good to hear there will be some other new people around there. Seems a little odd they would continue to hire people for a facility that is backed up w new hires. Why not send people to facilities where they can actually begin training...I can only think it was just a phase they went through and they are back on track. I've also read where things are getting back to normal (whatever that is!).

Pretty much all I know about Miami is that cost of living is high and there are some bad ass beaches (Florida beaches are far superior to Cali beaches!!). I plan on taking a trip down there in the next few weeks to check everything out. What surrounding cities or areas would you say I should begin looking at for a place to live? Which places should I totally avoid?

Damn. If I had to make a judgment about the place solely based on that letter then I would have to say it sounds like a pretty crappy place to work. But as with everything, there are always 2 sides to the story...doesn't seem right that management and the FAA couldnt find another job for him in Texas. Isn't what a hardship transfer is all about?

One thing did catch my attention in that letter though. He wrote something along the lines of it wasn't until he got to OKC that he learned that people were getting the facilities they desired after they had rejected 2 offers. Is there any truth to that? Do you think they offer people the harder to staff facilities their 1st time around...and once they reject it they offer them something maybe a little closer to their liking? Wouldn't really surprise me. I mean, they've gotta staff those facilities somehow.

While your training you can definately rule out living anywhere really nice(brickell or south beach) unless you want to live in a efficiency. Kendall/Hammocks is a good place to live, but with the traffic during rush hour. Homestead is really cheap but its far down south. I think the best place to live if you look consider commute and quality of housing/neighboorhood would be in Doral. I will probably be looking for a place there soon.

I recently got laid off so I have some free time. If you schedule a tour soon, maybe we can get together and do the tour and I can show you the city, beaches and the girls...lol.

I would totally be down to meet up w you when I come down there. I was hoping to get to Miami before the PEPC, so I guess it all depends on which one I am able to go to. If I get the one in NY it will be pushing it to get to Miami in less than two weeks...but I will figure something out. I will definitely keep you posted.

I was told that my class date is the next one for ZMA(5/8), I guess they only have classes for centers every few months. See if you could get the PEPC out of the way and maybe you'll make that class.

Yeah I've heard the same thing about center classes. How long after you completed the PEPC did you receive your FOL w a class date? I'll try to make the one in NY but its like 13 days away so it might be full. The next one after that is March 23...so if I go to that one, do you think I will be SOL for the May Academy date??

I went to the NYC PEPC in July 08 and got my TOL there. Didn't get a class date until November, but that's because I have some security issues. I didn't get the FOL 2 weeks ago though. If you have a clean background and pass the medical/phych you could get your class date as soon as 2 weeks after the PEPC(from what I hear at least).

I've only met one person on this site with a 5/8 class date, so you may in luck.

I'm actually interested in the MIA tower, anybody know if they're still hiring for that facility or is it full? I plan on calling for a tour soon.

One of my professors at Miami-Dade was an OJTI at ZMA and you are in for one hell of a wait. He said their most recent "inductee" to the training program had been sitting twirling her thumbs for two years and six days before they got her started. He constantly made reference to the absolute disorganized nature of the management getting people through the system.

I have no reason to dispute this info, I just cant believe it was like that for some people.

No one has answered my question about the average amount of time it takes to begin training throughout the nation. I'm sure it depends on the facility type and level...thats why its an average

If you want an exact answer, look at the facility contact info on the left and pick up the phone and call all 2000 ish, add up the amount of time it takes, and divide it by the number of facilities... If you dont want to do the legwork for that, accept what people on this forum do know and expand on it...

It all depends on the backlog... ZMA has piss-poor management (from what I am told) and are being flooded with developmentals. At this point 2 years probably looks good to some there. ZDV I have heard is sitting about a year before actual training starts. ZTL is geared for developmentals and has quite a few OJTI's so their flood of developmentals is having a better shot. D01 right now is sitting at about 6 months before training begins. ASE will have you checked out in 3 months... It all depends on the amount of developmentals vs. the number of OJTI's and the ability to work good developmentals through the system.

Well I think if I took everything that was posted on this site as fact I might be the most misinformed person on the planet. I post questions then look for the most credible source. Posts that start with "I heard it from someone who knows someone who heard it from someone walking down the hall" generally are not ones I take to seriously. I like hearing things from people who have direct experience. Maybe they actually work at the facility, took a visit there, or know someone first hand who works there. Believe me, I do plenty of my own legwork. I don't get all my info from this site or from any site for that matter. I was just seeing if by chance anyone here had a solid answer. From the looks of it no one has the definitive answer I was looking for. I guess I will know my answer when I visit the facility March 3rd.

It seems as though you got rather nasty that no one here has given you an "exact answer" as you said you were looking for. That is because none of us care what the "average time" for every facility is. Since you said in the quted passage that you will know the answer to your question when you tour your facility, I will say good luck. It is not terribly likely that someone there will know the exact "average time" of all the facilities. It just is not feasible. On that note, I will end discussion on the path we took.

Each facility has it's own average time to check out.

As of today it will be X mos... next month that will change.

There is no... XXXX days you will check out at facility XXX.

SOOO, be happy we know ranges... and those ranges differ AGAIN from those doing "fast track" training or whatever it's called and those doing traditional training.
