I hope ZFW is one of them, they are so backed up right now just to get to Academy.

I got placed before others that were "ahead" of me. Oh well, screw 'em!

    Re: Salt Lake Center

I'm still fairly early in the ATC process, but Salt Lake is at the top of my list. In fact I'm going out there this week for a visit of the Center there. Hopefully I make it all the way through the process and their hiring freeze in SLC is over by then. Although the OM said he wasn't sure there was really a freeze at the center, but he knew the tower was def. not taking anyone else at this time.

I can't imagine I'd be ready to go anywhere until the very end of the year, if not even later than that. Fingers crossed though.

    Salt Lake Center - ZLC

Just wondering if anyone had any info on how long ZLC was backed up on training new hires (if at all). I was an RPO at ZAN and saw about a 2-2.5 year training period, the back up time was only about 1/2 a year there.

Or if you have any other usefull info for a newb fill me in!

    Cya in August...

About three weeks ago, someone on JC received an email from a manager at ZLC stating that they weren't taking on any new hires at the moment. Of course, that's third or fourth hand information, so take it as you will. With your start date, I'd think you'd be safe.

Yea I read that on another forum, I think that would apply more to people who hadn't gotten an TOL/FOL. Looks like places are getting more and more full...

Yup, just wonding about training times, talked to a tracon controller at a ski resort a couple of weeks back and he seemed to think it was averaging 2-3years... sigh, i'll guess i'll find out soon enough

My friend checked out there in 3 years. He's apparently a trainer now, just slightly into his 5th year I believe. A guy who started 6 months after him ended up checking out in 2.5 years. From talking to him it sounds like somewhere in the 2 to 3 range is average.

Apparently the check out time at other facilities can be much longer. He had a classmate at Oakland center who checked out in a little over 4 years. I guess some of the larger facilities just don't have the means to train people as quickly.

I've got Utah as my first choice in my Geo Pref so we'll see what happens. They won't be taking on many people this year though....so we'll see how it goes.

Good luck getting in, there are a lot of people that want this state for some reason .. The 2.5-3year range was my guess thanks for chiming in with some other's experience, again good luck getting where you want!

I put down WA and UT as my preferences and got ZLC so they are obviously hiring some people. I saw at least 2 other people on here who got ZLC as well so. I really excited. It sounds like a great place to work and I'm going to have to make a trip down there to visit.

I got ZLC as well. So they are definitely hiring a few people at least.

Ha! You can't. They don't let anyone in this place. Not even people we've hired with academy dates that have passed their security clearance. Unless you're a pilot. Then you're good. Joe-Shit-The-Cropduster can come hang out but out prospective employees must wait.

I took a tour of the tower at Salt Lake, haven't called the center yet, but the tower was way easy to get into. Real nice people, very informative.

I live just down the street from ZLC, literally, so if anyone is coming in to town to get a tour, I've got recommendations for restaurants - heck, I'll even spring for a McGriddle combo meal breakfast for a friend from StuckMic!

I know a few guys who after they applied and a few that didn't even apply but knew someone there or were going to apply that got tours of the place no problem. I guess it all depends on who you talk to, Lori the training supervisor is super nice and is usually able to help people out.

Anyone know the wash-out rate for ZLC? Is it a good idea to go there if your OTS with no experience?

Re: Salt Lake Center - ZLC

Hey everyone, I am a recent CTI Grad and have applied to be an Air Traffic Controller in the state of Utah. I am really hoping to be picked up at Salt Lake Center so I'm curious, does anyone who currently works there know what the staffing level is like? I know at the last hiring phase they hired a lot of people for Salt Lake Center. If that was the actual case, that makes me think they may not hire anyone for a while. So can anyone shed some light on what the staffing level is like?

And I've received a lot of good information from this thread so thank you for that! I'm wondering how the enviornment is, i.e. how the relationship between managers and controllers and even controllers and other controllers are? Is there a lot of sectors with that require controllers to know and use a lot of non-radar?

Any other information you can give about Salt Lake Center would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much everyone!

I selected Salt Lake as my only choice in market & got selected for ZLC, it may take a little longer, but you don't have to make multiple selections if you don't want.
