I hear ya, but ur taking the word of the spin docs who a, reported, and b, were the reporters. I don't trust the word of a 26yr old wonder sup/traffic dodger who then tattles after he's fired.

Towns, your an idiot, and radium your right... all the stuff he said is what controllers do on the mids. no controllers have laptops out during the day shifts. the story the media is telling is amazing. they are getting everything wrong. evan seeley is a tool who got laid off and more than 3 weeks later decided to come out with the claims. he threatened zny and said that they must send him back to tx where he is from as a supervisor or he would go to the media. hes a 26yr old baby who sucked as a controller and sucked as a supervisor. controllers do take their job seriously. Towns, when you get to your facility just let the controllers know how they dont care about the job and how you deserve it more than they do, and also how they should be fired.

Thats a good point. The media does not understand or unwilling to understand how ATC works.

Wait, the AP puts a spin on news? Who would have thought they would milk such an opportunity as to write about ATCs

Let me say this folks...... Don't start talking shit especially based off the medias report of things. What the media reported is nowhere near what actually happened and I have seen the live playback of the real tapes. The report that this "whistleblower" made and that incident have nothing to do with one another and all he was doing was trying to get his job back in a last ditch effort because he couldn't do it........ And regardless you shouldn't be ripping into controllers until you have worked traffic yourself and can do it.

So I was just informed that ZNY picked me up in these last set of panels. I have heard that this facility.... Although renowned for its complex sectors and traffic... Is extremely hard for new trainees..... Any advice or words of encouragement from anyone?

I am training there now. If you study, use your time wisely, and are committed, you will be fine. It's definitely not easy, but not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. There were some issues that made training at ZNY difficult but those are all presently being addressed. Worry about OKC first.

I'm training as well... When you first get in the builind you will find out how humbling the maps, loa's, etc are compared to what you learned in OKC. Everything is doable, but you must work hard. The wash-out rates are dependant on area's mostly with A having a 59% washout rate, B having 7% washout rate and the rest of the building anywhere between 15-25%.

For now, dont worry about it too much or what area you get assigned. Everybody in the building is great once you get to know them and everybody will try to get you through the process - but you need to work for it!

Keep up with your studies in OKC, their new program is no cakewalk.

I too just got picked up to ZNY...and now I'm scared of getting A. What makes the washout rate so severe?

Re: New York Center - ZNY

Well ZNY is the busiest center right now and area A is the busiest place in the building - and by a pretty large margin. The washout rate is high in A because the airspace is complex and the volume of traffic is high. That and the area likes to keep a much higher standard for their developmentals. Having said that, A is an awesome area with awesome people.

Another thing to remember is that ZNY is pretty unique. Very little of our traffic is actually enroute. In fact we are more like an extension of a tracon. Almost all our traffic is climbing/descending and cross-crossing through each other.

Word is that we are getting 150 over the next 3 years.

ZNY is In the process of updating its training order. In general most area will allow only half the hours for training. My area is giving 100 hours on your first H-side followed by 40 on each consecutive one (used to be 100 per sector). The goal is to get you on radar ASAP. Should know by February if the order is approved.

No. Station is on other side of airport. You would need a can to get from the station to the center.

Reliable source? I believe I'm close enough to the top of the list that I could be included.
