    Boston Center - ZBW

I just put in my Geo Prefs and this is one of the places I'd like to end up. Anyone work there? What's it like? Managment, Staffing, etc.

It's great to see that this thread has been so active since I started it. I am not officially ZBW bound. Well…official once all my clearances come back anyway. Anyone else on their way there or already there?

My wife works in ZBW. She really likes it. I will find out the other stuff for you and I will shoot you a PM with the answers once I get them.

I'm also headed for ZBW. Starting the academy next month. Aviator, I'd love to hear the same info about how things are for your wife if you wouldn't mind.

    Boston ARTCC visit

    Hello,

My name is Sylvain and I am a French air traffic controller. I work at Marseille ARTCC.

I will be in Boston from September 28th to October 9th 2009.
And I would love to visit Boston ARTCC and see how my American counterparts work.

My center welcomed an American ATC from Minnesota ARTCC a few months ago, but unfortunately, I couldn't attend his presentation about his job and had only the chance to talk to him for a few minutes.

If any Boston ATC would welcome me for a tour, that would be awesome!

    Thank you very much.

    Sylvain

    Re: Boston ARTCC visit

I arranged a tour of Boston Center in May by calling the NATCA (labor union) national office (800-266-0895) and asking them to put me in touch with the facility representative. I can't seem to find the info they gave me at the moment but I'm sure if you explain to them who you are they would be happy to help.

The website is www.natca.org if you want more info.

    Good luck.

    GW

    Re: Boston ARTCC visit

    Sylvain,

I'm going to post your request on the NATCA web site, if you can forward me your email address and/or a phone number for someone to get in touch with you it would help. My primary email is mramsey@natca.net

The process for a foreign controller to visit an FAA facility is that you have to receive prior permission from FAA Headquarters in Washington DC. The best way to accomplish this is to contact the Facility Manager for the facility that you want to visit, they will ask for your Name, Address, Facility you work at, Passport Information, and probably require a copy of your Identification. They will do a verification of your information and then either approve or dis-approve your request.

Total time to accomplish the prior permission process is several weeks so the sooner you begin the process the better. We've had several foreign controllers and pilots visit the facilities that I've worked so I know you should be able too.

    Re: Boston Center - ZBW

I toured ZBW Wednesday morning. I was there for about 1.5 - 2 hrs. I met with Fran who is the training manager. Seemed like a really good guy. Everyone I've met there from Security to the ATM to controllers have all be really friendly. A couple of things that were note worthy:

    *Hiring 25 in FY10
*Average Check out time is 2.5 years
*First 18 months will be as an AG. After that you move up from D1 to CPC in about 1-2 years
*About 14% don't make it to CPC. Half of that is due to people leaving because the job is not for them, the other 7% is due to them not being able to do the job.
*First few weeks is largely self study time in a class room. There is a syllabus hanging on the wall that outlines when you'll be tested on what.
*After that it's a couple of weeks on the floor observing.

    Re: Boston Center - ZBW

Please do not post information about your class dates, FOL, TOL, or anything having to do with hiring in this thread. This thread is for people seeking information about the facility and area. If you read the sticky above in the forum you would see that.

I will be moving all this information to a new thread in the facility general discussion forum titled "Boston Center - ZBW Hiring Information"

Looks like I will finally be making it out to NH. I have a wife, 2 young boys, and a corgi. If anyone knows of something coming available in the area that isn't prohibitively expensive around the beginning of 2015, please PM me!

Hi everyone, I'm going to OKC in a few weeks for enroute and was curious if anyone knows anything about hiring here. This is ideally where I would like to go, but I do not hear much talk about ZBW on the forum. Any information is appreciated. Thanks

By any chance, do you happen to be in training with the area that works our EWR arrivals?

Thanks Invisible Hand. Ideally I'm looking to know if ZBW will be available for selection by any classes coming up. I realize you probably wouldn't know specifics on this, but nobody seems to ever mention ZBW around the forum. If you have heard of anything regarding hiring numbers I'm all ears.

I'd love to go tour ZBW someday, and sit over it that area to watch the operation. That interaction between SHAFF (STEWART), Pawling, Danbery and Kingston high seems to be interesting. Good luck in your training!

Ive been at the academy since April and haven't heard of ZBW coming up much. I graduate in 4 weeks though and I'm really hoping it's an option for me

How are the current staffing levels at ZBW? Any idea how many trainees will be going to ZBW in Fiscal year 2016?

Someone leaked the supposed placement list for the next ~1000 or so placements and, at least as far as I saw, I only noticed two facilities that weren't on the EnRoute placement list... ZDV and ZBW. I could be wrong, but that's what I saw.
