I currently reside in Seattle and the commute is not bad. Born/raised in WA. PM me and I can give you more deets. I don't like to say a lot about what I know on the threads.

It will depend largely on your shift, Seattle traffic is very bad. If you're on a mid-shift, you will be able to make it from anywhere in Seattle (including north/udistrict) in under an hour. Capitol hill or queen Anne should be 35-40 minutes with no traffic (depending on how far away from the nearest onramp). With rush hour traffic, I would plan for 60-85 minutes per way. You could make it work if you're really set on living in the city.

Hey ZSE controllers I'm a Feb bid hire and ZSE is my top choice right now if I can get it. What's the training situation like? What are better rural areas to live in near the center? I've been looking at southern Auburn and west to federal way and Tacoma. Any and all information would be great! Thank you

I'm not a controller, but I went to CTI school at Green River which is down the street from the center.

Avoid Kent at all costs, parts of Auburn are crappy, but up by the school theres a couple of nice middle class neighborhoods.

I would look into Federal Way if you were to pick any of those three. Bonney Lake is also a really cool area which isn't as busy and more rural than those other cities.

I worked at ZSE for 25 years after two other facilities. Great place to work.

Just got a pTOL with a projected Enroute OKC training of July 2016. Anyone know if ZSE is short staffed / looking to bring in trainees in the Sept timeframe?

Looks like I'm not the only one in the July time frame that wants zse.

I toured the facility several times with a controller (GV) that I knew from flying club.

Great group of people. I seem to recall having some really good chicken enchiladas in area C

    Re: Seattle Center - ZSE

Hey ZSE folks, ZAN developmental here. I need to get to ZSE, and fast. It's a boring story, but the essence is that I'm facing a hardship that isn't explicitly spelled out in the contract, so I'm not confident that my hardship papers will work. I'd love to have someone willing to swap to seal the deal. They don't call this place the "country club of the FAA" for nothing! The people are great, the traffic is pretty chill, and the quality of life is second to none, I'd you're an outdoorzy type. I'm in the High area (so you would be too), which means I'll get ATOPS trained, so if you have a desire to get to ZOA or ZNY at any point in your career, this is your opportunity. Only 200 people in the world know how to work that technology and you could be one! It would write your ticket to any place with oceanic ops. Let me know, please. You could even take over my lease- nice 2 bedroom in a good area with a great kitchen that allows dogs. I'd be forever in your debt!!

I am graduating from the academy next week and have Seattle on my list. It seems very expensive out there. Can someone tell me a decent place to live that i could live with AG pay that is country like (I have a horse). How long is the current check out time?

Shows 3 years for CPC. Center is in Auburn, WA, so closer to Tacoma, which is pretty cheap - though not a very good area.

Thanks for the info!!! Do you recommend looking anywhere that is a good area for kids and families? I don't mind driving up to about 40 minutes or so.

I can't really answer that one... I was stationed there 10+ years ago, didn't really pay attention to places for families to live when in the navy.
