Any word on training at ZID in the last couple months? How're things going?

Selfish update on my status: I finally cleared medical today (and there's nothing even wrong with me). So, I should only have the background investigation remaining before I get a date for the academy (a waiver for training on that would be great). I hope to hear this soon because my wife is due with our second child around 5/24/10 and I don't want to miss that.

Good input from everyone. I like this forum. Jeff, when you coming down man? We are waiting for you. I would say to everyone listen to ColtsATC. He is in the think of training and has good insight to what?s going on. He is right on about ERAM. One nice thing is there are a lot of new trainees hitting the radar room right now due to ERAM being put on the back burner right now. That will not last to much longer because they are starting to test ERAM and as it stands now we are supposed to switch over to ERAM in April which means refresher training. Just like everyone in the FAA there are rumors they will be pushed back but we shall see. As for new hires, there are a lot of different things being said. I have heard anywhere from 50-60 new people in FY10 to 12. Depends on who you ask and what day of the week it is. Advice to you who are waiting.

    1. The government like the military is a lot of hurry up and wait. It's something we all get frustrated with but something that won't change anytime soon.

    2. While you?re waiting I would look into a gov job. A friend of mine worked for the TSA and that counts towards gov. service time. It helps for vacation time and stuff like that.

    3. I know money is tough these days and in this economy, but if you are close to Indy for can get here, come take a tour. Meet some people. The most important thing if you come is to meet with the HR manager. She is a nice lady. I came for a visit before I was hired and it will not hurt to leave a good impression. It?s always better to put a face to a name.

I hope some of that random helped some people waiting to get in. All I can tell you from almost being done training (radar training) the wait however long it is for you be worth it. You not only gain a great jon but a second family. Message me anytime if you have any questions.

    Re: Indianapolis ARTCC - ZID

    Hey,
I am trying to get in on a Pubnat, I've taken the at-sat and I'm waiting to hear back for the next step. I want to come in and take a look around, meet some people and start making connections I live in greenwood, but I don't know who to call about setting up a time and date. Also I was wondering is anyone on here an ex-national guard controller? I noticed the national guard is hiring atc'ers and I was wondering if that might be another route into the field. Any help would be appreciated, I have alot of really silly questions I'm sure I could also unload, but right now I'll start with these.

I'm also slotted for ZID. I signed my TOL a while back, and I would love to take a tour of the facility. It would be great to meet some people while I'm waiting on a class date. Do you have a point of contact you can send me via private chat?

I've had my TOL since March of '09, Pubnat 3. Talked to Aviation Careers yesterday. I'm 8th in line to go to class. ZID is not slated to need anybody for FY11. They told me to expect class in 2012, unless I want to go to ZLA

    Re: Indianapolis ARTCC - ZID

    Hi guys,

It's been a few months since my last post here, I've all but given up on the PUBNAT route and I'm starting the Purdue CTI at the airport this fall, I still want to come see the ZID enroute center, is there anyone I can contact for a tour. I met a few controllers from there yesterday, I might just start there, but if anyone knows who to contact directly for tours I would love to know.

    Thanks!!!

This makes me feel way better about accepting a redirect to ZLA from ZID. I love the west coast but I've been in the midwest now too long.

Headed to class Sept. 22nd. Can't wait!

I'm not too worried about the Palmdale area. I've heard it's pretty hoosier but not too bad. My parents just moved to Vegas so I'll be back within driving distance of them too.

I will loving getting out of this humidity! I've only been in STL a little over a year now but the city was just starting to grow on me. Time for a new adventure!

It's been 3 months since the last post so just in case someone found some new info. Does anyone have any info on the staffing levels or the hiring status of ZID?

I'd kinda like to know as well. I've been waiting with my TOL since Feb 09 and according to Luiz I was #3 in line for school. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I also had a TOL for ZID in Feb 09. I was told 2012 at the earliest. I asked for a redirect and got it. I PV next week.

Yeah.. I put one in as well.. 4 weeks later, it was "denied..no reason given". Sometimes I wonder if it was actually put in.

the thing about zid, is on your 130k cpc salary... you will live like a freaking king. So, in that respect, its worth the wait.

One of the reasons I would prefer ZID over IND. Would be happy with either but honestly with hiring the way it's been who wouldn't.
