    Huntsville Tower - HSV

i'll be heading to OKC at the end of march and will be in Huntsville end of june/early july... i know the current facility manager will be on detail in DC for at least six months so he won't be there when i arrive in Huntsville, but was wondering if anyone was familiar with the current controllers etc there... thanks!

Re: Anyone familiar with the Huntsville, AL tower?

There is an instructor in Basics that could probrably give you some insight. Youll know if you find him hehe.

    Auburn,

I'm one of the controllers at HSV, we are a 100% NATCA facility (thanks to Ray Palmer, which should set off warning bells). Email me your cell number and I'll give you a call or I'll have Steve (NATCA rep) call you to answer your questions. When you get down to the academy you will hear about a NATCA meet and greet, make an effort to attend, the guys there will answers a lot of your questions that you will have after listening to the FAA propaganda.

Currently we are dying for additional bodies that can certify, which means we are doing six day workweeks and a lot of 10 hour days. The facility is open from 0600 to 2400, your classroom training will take about a month, basically how fast you go through the classroom phase is up to you. The average time to fully certify has exceeded two years, everyone is different so some trainees take longer and some take less time.

If you need any help locating an apartment, etc. let me know. I currently rent at the Overlook ($474 for a one bedroom) off of Sparkman and University which is next to UAH and about a 15 minute drive to the tower.

Quick question, what facility controls the departures and arrivals out of HSV?

    Thanks

HSV is an up/down.. so the Tower/Approach are the same facility.

I`m currently a DOD controller, thinking about getting back into the FAA. I initially started out in the FAA, and went DOD when the FAA was under the old contract. I'm very interested in HSV area, so any information would be appreciated. I'm from Mobile, AL trying to come back to sweet home Alabama. Any contact info would be great as well.

Looking for anyone currently a HSV controller who could host a young man wanting to research ATC for a book he is writing. I’m a retired ATC from DFW currently living in Huntsville, I met this young man volunteering at USSRC
