Thank you. Yeah seems like not many have much to say about the facility. Anyone used to work there? Or presently working there?

I have a friend of mine who works there now. He was at Helena,MT first which is a slow non radar facility. I think he got to FFZ and certified in under a year. Having never been at a busy vfr tower like FFZ before I say thats pretty good. It also helps having nice weather and consistent traffic to be able to train on. I think he likes the area a lot and you would be in a good hub to eventually try and get to PHX or the tarpon there. Only negative is that you don't get a radar ticket at FFZ.

John, call the facility and have Leighanne email you the link for the repository. It has the LOA's and SOA that you can study up on. I just retired out of there the end of Feb. It has a large CAE flight school predominately Asian students who do not speak English. They learned English last week and are learning to fly this week. You will need patience, hence my retirement! LOL. They have some pretty good proceedures in place to keep airplanes separated. You will work lots of helicopters, Cherokees, and Diamond stars the most. IFR traffic is very light. You will have an occasional jet. They have a large Commemorative Air Force Wing so you will get a lot of vintage aircraft requesting overheads. Ground control is pretty easy, Local 2 is just the touch and go's and helicopters in the Yankee One pattern. Yankee One is restricted below your touch and go pattern. It gets pretty busy but once you get the hang of it, it flows nicely. Using strips is mandatory. They have little half strips and they write the call sign and what they want on the strip, then move the strips around a board to keep track of the pattern. Tune into Live ATC and start listening to call signs. Mostly you will Oxford this or Oxford that. OXF361 etc. The Oxford call sign numbers correlate to the type of aircraft it is, so as soon as you learn the calls signs, you will automatically know what kind of aircraft it is.

A really nice town to live in there is Gilbert. I lived at Val Vista and Baseline. Its close to the freeway and it has a really upscale outdoor mall right there. A large traditional mall is just a couple of miles down the road. The old town Gilbert has been re-done and has many trendy restaurants. Freestone Park is an awesome place for people who like to get out and do things. It also has a fitness center there. There is literally two of everything within 5 miles of you at that location. You can check Craigslist to see the rental situation. If you want to buy something, let me know, I will connect you with a really great Realtor!

MA (the fac rep) is an excellent controller and an excellent rep. It's good for him to go down to P50, so you most likely won't get to see to much of him. Todd, the manager, is new and I am not sure how long he will be there since I think he's ready or almost ready to retire. I think I might of sent you a friend request, I can't find you now, but I can connect you with the FFZ folks. Its a good group, you will have fun. Everyone checks out there, they don't screw around with you.

That's great news.. not sure I got a request. Yeah my goal is to just put my head down and learn as much as I can! I got my CTO from MCAS Yuma and did controlling overseas at 3 different towers.
