IFR Aircraft Through a MOA in Class G Airspace

Well, this is almost the text book definition of Restricted Area. If you inserted "Restricted Area" for "MOA", in the quote above, it would be a true statement.

IFR Aircraft Through a MOA in Class G Airspace

You're thinking of a Restricted Area.

Military Service Deposit for short term

I'm not sure but I think you have to actually work for 5 years in order to be vested. If you buy back your military time it is used to compute your retirement, which is basically 1.1% of your high three times your years working for the Feds. I think that is correct.

Military to FAA Without a CTO

Oh, so even the senior controllers only get qualified in one branch? A Navy facility expects all Chiefs (E-7/8) and E-6's to be qualified on every position in the facility (FWS). It's not restricted to that and a lot of E-5's and some E-4's will get it as well. Every once in a while a guy...

Military to FAA Without a CTO

Ok, in the Navy you are not facility certified unless you get qualified on all operating positions in the facility (tower, radar and flight planning). E-3's usually are required to get GCA and flight data, ground and flight planning. E-4, E-5 fully qualified in flight planning, and then fully...

Military to FAA Without a CTO

I know at one time (a long time ago) that the Air Force only allowed people to train in one branch (Radar or Tower). They also had a job code for just flight planning. I guess that is not the case any more?

Military to FAA Without a CTO

That's good. So all of the Air Force E-3's are fully qualified? That's impressive. I'm sure it makes manning the facilities much easier. How long does it take a first tour E-3 to get qualified on Local at a place like Nellis for instance?

Military to FAA Without a CTO

When you say "and then not even get fully utilized by your follow-on duty stations", I think you misunderstand what has been said. I think all of the comments above are questions about new controllers that want to get a CTO or approach qual at their first duty station, not their follow on duty...

Military to FAA Without a CTO

This has always been a facility by facility decision. If you are sharp and aggressively attack training then you will "probably" get your shot at getting qualified in one branch or the other and maybe both. Nothing is guaranteed, but you can hedge your bets with your attitude.

Military to FAA Without a CTO

No one can guarantee you'll get your CTO. You should know your next duty station before you have to extend for it. If you go to an approach control it may be harder to ensure you get a shot at a CTO. If you go to a tower/GCA you increase your chances for a shot at a CTO and a radar qual.

    Birmingham - BHM

    No problem

    Birmingham - BHM

Good. By the tone of your question (is the nightlife even REMOTELY decent?), I think you need to go somewhere else.

    Birmingham - BHM

Nope, Birmingham is terrible, nothing to do, the countryside is ugly and people are not friendly. If I was you I would go somewhere else. I hear the area around Shreveport La is great or how about Salt Lake City or maybe Tulsa Oklahoma.

    RPO Strike 2018

Be sure you are prepared to lose the job. That is a distinct possibility. If it is worth that risk, then go for it. I understand the principle here and you have a difficult decision. You have decided to be in a union. If your brothers decide to go out, are you going go and stay out with them?
