    Looking for Input

Hey, Weighing my options for possible routes to ATC. Looking for suggestions and options on if Air National Guard is a possible route to take to pursue my goal as an Air Traffic Controller.

Several options that I know. 2 year or 4 year degrees, try your luck applying to an OTS bid, or the military route, which has options too. I got my experience through the Air Force; six years active duty, then got hired by the FAA. Had I known about ANG and the great recruiting bonuses at the time, I probably would have done that.

TLDR; your best option is contingent on your goals and timeline.

    Re: Looking for Input

I'm currently an AC2 in the Navy, and as far as our rating is concerned, it's one of the best in the service. Quick advancement - I made E-5 in 2 years - and got fully qualified here at my first facility at NFW. Your qualifications depend heavily on where you go though; we're a non-approach control tower/radar facility so I have RATCF rating but but not approach control.

Everyone that has got out of the Navy here has applied to the FAA has so far been picked up. Just make sure you don't go to a ship. You get no worthwhile qualifications so it'll be a waste of 3 or 4 four years, ATC-wise.
