Re: Let's hear it for the pilots!

yeah I actually got laid off from a charter jet job in JAX and had to move 5 hours away to find work so hopefully with ATC I can make it back there. I had lived there for 6 years. I would be happy with either ZJX or JAX (have a house and lots of family in the area) but if you put a gun to my head I would say ZJX. What part of Jawja you in?

What's your aircraft callsign(s)? Do you fly into Pensacola at all?

Was just about to recieve my CFI when my daughter was born. Decided flying wasn't for me anymore and gave up on it. I've been flying a desk ever since. Best decision i could have ever made.

270TT Commercial SEL. About 60 in 152, 150 in 172 and the rest in an Arrow III. About an hour in a king air 90 ferrying it for the charter company I work line for. Learned to fly while in school at STC.

ATC has been a interest to me ever since I started flying a few years back.

Hi all. I have about 4000TT, ATP and am actually thinking about getting into ATC instead. Right now I fly for a regional and I enjoy it on most days but it would sure be nice to be home everyday and make more money so I can fly for fun again.

    Go Gators..

350TT multi/commercial/instrument.. was hired by Atlantic Southeast Airlines and had my class cancelled, had interviews lined up with American Eagle, Pinnacle and AirNet but they were all cancelled (right around the time oil hit $147)... ATC never really crossed my mind until I had a former controller ask me if I'd ever thought of it.. and here I am, can't wait to get into it!

I honestly believe flying is only fun when you are not being paid for it... Right now I am working on my MEII and plan to fly for myself and help out students that cant afford $60/hr for an instructor in the northern Denver area. I have CFI insurance and am more than happy to pay for it myself.

To me it's sad that instructors are trying to get rich at the sacrifice of those who share the same passion.... Thats not what flying is all about.

    4200TT ATP MEL / Comm SEL / CFI / 2 type ratings / Part 135 Jet Captain

That's what I had when I realized I couldn't live like a dog anymore. Now I am a perfectly happy FPL in South Florida and can afford my house and my family much better then before...a pension...great insurance plans...I don't think twice about my decision and none of you should either. I wasn't a jet junkie...just an airport junkie and now I get to be at one 5 days a week!!!

I'm applying because after 3 1/2 years, I am already sick of living in a suitcase. I wish I could have time to fly for fun, but after working several days straight, the last thing I want to see is an airplane.

Disclaimer: I agree in helping out other people, and I'm not saying you are motivated by multi time BUT...

I think its ridiculous that instructor pay is so low and pilot pay in general. My cousin pays some high school kid $50 an hour to learn to play the guitar, and meanwhile I'm teaching people to fly airplanes for half that...

Its the same reason pilot pay has gone down the toilet...people are willing to do anything for flight time...including work for free

Thank you for driving the industry into the ground...

    You are certainly welcome.

And for the record, I am not doing it for the time. I have no intentions whatsoever of going beyond the MEII. I could have 30k hours and would not go for more. I am doing it out of my love of flying and desire to help those who may not be able to afford $60/hr for instructor time.

1700 hours. Furloughed from a regional where I was an FO on the EMB 145. Currently flying freight in a C 210. I hate my current job but I really did love flying for an airline.
I would honestly much rather fly than do ATC but I look at everything that is going on in the industry and the glory days are long gone and are never coming back. I mean now you have Republic buying Frontier and Midwest, pretty soon they will have their pilots flying Airbuses for $30 an hour. WTF? The airlines are like my ex girlfriend, she is really hot and I miss giving it to her but the further removed I am from her the more I realize I'm better off going a different route.
