Round Robin Flight Plan - Automatic IFR Cancelation

This is a follow up question I have from a previous question. I understand that at towered airports the tower will cancel IFR flight plan after the aircraft arrives. I'm curious as to who does it and how its done. Does the person on the Tower frequency do it as soon as the aircraft lands on the runway, or does the person on Ground frequency do it as soon as they give instructions to taxi to parking? Does the computer system do it automatically?

Is it possible that a flight on a round robin IFR flight plan (Point A to Point B to Point A), that if the aircraft stops and asked to taxi to parking at Point B that the IFR flight plan will be cancelled at that point? To me it seems logical that it would be canceled because ATC doesn't know how long we are going to be staying at Point B.

When you land at your destination, it is automatically cancelled (if towered). Only a tower controller, but I'm 99% sure approach can put in a delay, but I've only ever seen it when the aircraft was doing some pattern work, not full stopping. You won't be asked to taxi to parking if that's not your intended destination. If you decide to park at point B for a while, then advise approach before switching or let tower know and they'll coordinate with approach. At that point your flight plan would be cancelled and you would need to file a new one.

If they are only at Point B and the flight plans clears them back to Point A the IFR shouldn't be cancelled until they get to their final destination. It is entirely possible to do practice approaches IFR at towered and untoweree airports without your IFR being cancelled. Someone you dealt with just screwed it up somewhere along the way

In this case, we were going to do a touch & go at Point B, but had a slight mechanical issue on final and asked for full stop, on the ground we asked to taxi to FBO, but while taxiing, we resolved the problem, and turned around and took off. I'm wondering if IFR could have been cancelled when we asked to taxi to FBO. We were initially cleared from Point A to Point A, but suspect the request to taxi to FBO may have resulted in the confusion.

If you are going to taxi to park without a disclosed delay. Your flight plan will be removed so that it doesn't cause an overdue airfraft report from the flight progress system. The controller can put what is called a "hold message" on your flight plan, so that it can be reactivated. Maybe next time, ask for this.
