This number will be reduced shortly. The agency is getting overcrowded. They are going away from staffing based on projections and going back to staffing based on actual need. I'm not stating my "source", so take it as you wish, but I'm not one to stir the pot based on rumors...
I asked the Facility manager, when I had to go talk with him after I finished my D sides. That is what he stated. I'm sure your source knows more than mine.

How's the atmosphere really? I've been there and a few other centers, tracons, towers, etc., ZTL seem to be a hell of a lot better than my place of employment (morale wise, adult behavior, smart people, happy about what they do, pride in job, team work etc). Is that a fascade for the strangers?

Emailed HR last week. Was told no more slots for ZTL for FY 2010. Bummer. I have a TOL for ZTL, April panels, August PEPC in Atlanta. Clearances done. Anyone else waiting on a ZTL class date?

Glenn, are you a gator fan? What area are you in?QUOTE]

Yes I am a Gator fan, alumni as well.

I reside in Area 7 which is known as the Fighting Seven. The north area, airspace is north of Atlanta, up over Chattanooga and Knoxville.

Short answer. Yes. We tend to behave when we have visitors, which is not very often.

Hi Dolly,

I am sorry to hear that you cannot get picked up here at ZTL but we have been bloated a bit by trainees lately and with the recent cuts in the training department they need more time to get all of the current folks thru D and R Schools.

Good luck,
Glenn

I'm a die-hard Gator and I'd like to go to UF for my Master's, but I've gotta finish my BS first.

Against all rational thought and advice, I've put in for an ERR to ZTL. We'll see how that goes.

When a level 12 transfers there will they have priority in training?
Do you mean a FPL/CPC transfer from another Level 12 Center? Or a Tower/Approach transfer? It would be a much different training plan.

Assuming you mean a transfer from another Center you would not really be in conflict with other trainees as far as D or R school because you would not go to them. But you also would not be waiting to get checked out to get a raise. You might have some competition on training on specific sectors with other trainees but it is not usually a big problem.

I hope I answered your question but I am not if I did. If not please give me more details. Send me a PM if you would prefer.

I did my interview at ZJX as well. Selected for ZTL from the April panels, waiting for a class date. The ZJX interviewer was very nice, but had no info on hiring numbers for ZTL, the only drawback of not interviewing at ZTL. I live in South Georgia, where are you?
I'm in Daytona Beach, FL...I did my interview in JAN but now I'm waiting for my TOL...any word on yours?

Hi,

Well I heard some bad news for anyone waiting to get hired for Atlanta Center. This is not any official response, but just what I heard from a management type. We just got 2 new hires from OKC but we are not getting very many more this fiscal year. I heard maybe 6 more. Hiring has slowed way down and I don't think it will change much next year either. Plus I heard that they are also looking into accepting transfers from other facilities instead of new hires.

Good luck,
Glenn

I just spoke with them a few days ago. They have 16 slots for FY 2011 to be received in four different months. Unfortunately they have a ton of developmentals waiting for R side so they have a bit of a log jam. And since I'm assigned there I didn't really like that news. Far cry from the 88 they did have.

I have a TOL for ZTL. I was at the ATlanta PEPC in August 09. CTI. Do you have your TOL as well? Are you OTS/CTI/other? Let me know if you hear anymore info, and good luck!

Most people that work in ZTL live in Stockbridge from what I hear. Very nice area. If I can get there I will probably move there too or somewhere along I-75. Fayetteville is very nice but getting to the center can be time consuming since you'll be travelling on side roads and not the interstate too much.
I lived in Stockbridge for 1 year. Stockbridge is in Henry County and its right on the border of Clayton County which is a very bad thing. Henry County is becoming the new Clayton County. Bad schools, lots of crime, and the traffic is worst in Henry County than in Atlanta. People with kids live in Fayetteville or Peachtree City. Pike County to the south is where you live if you want land and dont want to live in a subdivision and want cheaper home prices. If you live in Fayette or Pike County, you will have no social life. There is nothing to do. No good restaurants or bars. You have to drive 1 hour to Atlanta. All the people that have been hired in ZTL in the past 4 years and who are not married with kids all move up to Atlanta after about 1 year of living close to the center and being bored to death. It is a 45 minute drive to the center from ATL. Midtown, Grant Park, and Buckhead are the best neighborhoods to live in ATL. Move to Fayette County when you are 40 and want to have a boring life. Not when you are in your 20's or 30's. There is a 7 year supply of houses and condos in Atlanta and the suburbs due to overbuilding. If you buy anything within 1 hour drive of the center, expect to not be able to sell it for a very long time.

I lived in the area for 25 years and I would not live in Clayton County. Fayette County is not all that far for Atlanta, I don't know how it takes an hour for you. I lived in Tyrone and can get up there in 30 minutes. It is only like 25 miles to ATL. Plus you usually have to go about 70 MPH in the slow lane to keep up.

It also depends on your definition of "good restaurants or bars". All suburbs will have the same suburb bars and chain restaurants, obviously if you want more night life and fancy places to eat you have to go to the city. It just about how every city in America works. The housing situation is just the same in every city. I am in Memphis and I have been in my house 3 years and I could maybe break even, probably would have to loose a few grand because everyone wants closing costs paid.

Funny how it take 45 minutes to drive to the Center from Atlanta but 1 hour to drive from Fayette county...they are practically right next to each other. Pike county is further away I agree with that. You would live there if you want land. If you want good schools live in Fayette or Coweta county. If you want to drive a golf cart around town, live in Peachtree City.

Middle of Fayetteville is 45 minutes to the Midtown ATL. Middle of Peachtree City is 45 minutes to Midtown ATL. Lots of places in Fayette County take 1 hour to get to Atlanta. Especially with the way traffic is on the southside now. The area of Fayette Co that is closer to the center is about 50 min. I know because I lived there. Of course if you live in Tyrone it will take you a shorter time to drive to Atlanta because it is farther north close to Fulton Co. If you live North of Fayetteville in N. Fayette County, of course it will take you a shorter time to drive to Atlanta. But you will also be closer to Clayton Co. If you live in Stockbridge, you will be 25 min to downtown but you will also be on the Clayton Co. Line and Stockbridge is going down fast. Fayetteville is a 20-25 minute drive to the center. Peachtree City is approximately 30 minutes due to all the curvy back roads. When I said 1 hour from Fayette Co, its the areas of Fayette County where most of the controllers with families live in, Southern Fayette Co. Not Tyrone.
