If I wanted to eventually control overseas somewhere like Oman, Doha, Abu Dhabi, or Dubai, what minimum level facility should I aim to cut my teeth at? Will having only Tower experience be a negative? I'm currently at a Level 5 tower and obviously that doesn't really do much to prepare me for that amount of traffic, much less qualify me for a job like that. I was hoping to transfer to a DC area airport (IAD, DCA, or BWI) and was wondering if anyone had any insight as to whether either of those were better than the others to prepare me and make my resume look good to the contractors over there or if I needed to aim even higher.

I know a lot of center guys who have had those jobs, either after retirement or between stints in the FAA. And like being hired by the FAA, a lot of being hired by those foreign ANSPs comes from factors beyond your control, the main one being timing of their need versus your availability.

You can't go wrong by moving up the ladder as high as you can, looking for radar work. And there are at least 4 centers below Category 2 as of the last PPT.

Just out of my controller first diploma. Seems getting a job is not as easy as before. How do you handle this whole mess right now? Are you guys still employed? I love the job and the thrill and excitement of being close to all these masterpieces but the situation has been quite stressful with all the bills that we have due at home. The only solution that I'm glad I found, is taking on side hustles that allow me to make up for all the lost income during these unforeseen situations. I managed to stay afloat by playing games on my phone and taking surveys every day.
