I'm wondering how many sectors D01 is split into and how much area the airspace covers? How is the training program and the hiring outlook for the next year, and how long on average does it take to become CPC? Thanks in advance.

Re: Denver TRACON D01

Let's see...

* 3 Feeders with a possible 4th soon.
* 4 Finals
* 3 Final Monitors
* 4 Departures
* 3 Satellites
* 2 Remote Radars from Grand Junction and Pueblo

It's up to FL230 and generally encompasses a 42 NM radius from DEN with an extension to the north to butt up against CYS and a small extension south to overlap COS airspace.

The rest, I dunno...

Thanks for the airspace info! If anyone knows anything about the future of D01 staffing that'd be great to know.

Re: Denver TRACON D01

I believe D01 is in a staffing crisis. Not that they are short of bodies but short of quals. I read on here there are 7 new slots to fill this fall but they are looking for people with Radar, Vra or Reinst to fill them after some mess with washouts. That's just what I have heard... Make sense, good luck tho!

Re: Denver TRACON D01

D01 is no longer accepting any more OTS hires. They realize that they need people with at least some experience now.

Average time to become CPC is just under 2 years to 2 and a half years for those under the specialization track (either departure or arrival specialists). Anyone new coming to D01 from here on out will NOT be given a specialization and will need to get every position in the room before becoming CPC. Therefore, expect 3 years or more to get fully checked out.

P.S. Nate, we already have 4 feeders. The 4th is already being used every now and then, even when not necessarily needed.

Re: Denver TRACON D01

Is D01 still taking CTI grads or are they just looking for VRA and CPC transfers?

As far as I know, they are still taking CTI grads. They're currently trying to get up to 9 CPC transfers right now last I heard. Not sure if they have slots for CTIs, but in the future they probably will. They just don't want OTS people that don't know a single thing about ATC or aviation, because then they really have to start with the basics.

That makes sense. Being Spring 2011 have you heard anything about a staffing update for the fall of 2011 and or the spring of 2012?
Interested in D01. However, trying to pick states wisely.

Thanks

You know where.
I heard that was due primarily because of a severe staffing problem. The newer D01 controllers couldn't handle the workload. Those STARs are all running now.

Not sure if anybody knows, but I'm hoping to transfer to D01 in about a year. During the transfer process, does the FAA take former DOD/Military quals into consideration? I will only have one FAA TRACON qual, but have other FAA recognized Military TRACON quals.

no your military quals wont count for points,but i do believe you get a couple points for your time in. For example, if you are trying to go to a lvl11 and you have one year in, and your at a lvl6, your gonna get like 6 points and get beat out by someone with more experience likely.

RB, you're a Debbie Downer! I am aware of those timelines, but also know that everything is waiverable. Don't be fooled, I'm crossing the SAV185005 line as well. You're sandwiched my friend. I hope to finish well ahead of the 12 months, but other trainees may be my problem.

I'll send you a PM so that this post can stay on topic. Sorry to get off topic...

Hello All,

This is for anyone that currently works at the TRACON. I have heard recently from D01 personnel that they are dividing the room into an arrival wall and a departure wall. So instead of certifying on all positions you'll have a specific track. With that being said what are the estimated cert times.

Also I hear mix feedback on the facility morale. Some like it some say it's hell. Feel free to PM me if you would like to go deeper into the topic. Thanks.

What's the staffing and trainee's situation look like now? I did the bid and they called my facility for a reference. How many are they thinking of picking up? If you work there, please PM me, I have a million questions!
