Hello everyone,

I tried googling my specific question but I couldn't find it.

I am a Computer Science student, going for a bachelors and decided to apply for ATSS entry level bid in April. From everything that I have read so far on here, this particular position in the FAA requires electronic experience, which I do not have. I qualified under the 24 semester hour in Computer Science and Mathematics classes, and was reviewed and deemed eligible.

Does anyone have any experience in my particular position? Do I even have a chance to pass the interview if I only qualified under education?

It might help if you note what position you applied for: Automation, Nav Aids, Radar or Environmental.

Your knowledge of electronics has qualified you for the position, so the interview process is not as much a "pass/fail" as it is for a manager to get to know what kind of employee he or she may be getting. You may have someone interview who has loads of experience but their attitude sucks. Or someone who has no experience but a positive attitude and future potential.

If your looking for how to get through the interview - show up early, be dressed nicely, be honest, be respectful and if you are very interested in working for the FAA let them know it. The questions to be concerned with are: do you work well with others, what is your work ethic, if I called you in on your day off to fix a critical system will you come in.

BTW, timing is everything. Even though you qualified you may not interview because there are qualified Vets in front of you.

Good luck - I hope you do get called for an interview.....

Apply for the ATSS 2101 Automation position; it is closer to your noted experience. I have witnessed time after time new hires being placed into positions totally opposite their skill set. Some managers hire to fill slots, you could be placed in any discipline deemed short on staffing. Be specific in the path you are seeking.

Hey Scotter,

I applied for the entry level position bid in April, it just says 'Entry Level Specialist' in the title. Thanks for the info, I will keep in mind the interview tips! I've always wanted to work with the FAA and am a technical type of person so I thought I might apply and just see what happens.

Thank you for replying and the information, much appreciated!

I applied for the Entry Level Specialist bid, from my understanding they will ask what position I am looking to pick if I get a interview? I am unsure how this particular bid works. I was thinking either Radar or Automation.

Thanks for the reply!
