As of right now Lockheed and the FAA want a 4 year Bachelors degree in aeronautics or meteorology. Some exceptions...

Associates degree from The Beaver College ATC program since you get a CTO there.

Military or Civilian experience as an air traffic controller.

Or the good old fashioned daddy knows someone high up so it doesn't matter lol.

Im glad you started this thread. I think a lot of us newer controllers dont really have a good grasp of what Flight service personell do. Im a little confused about the pay though. I dont mean to come across derogitory in any way, but you said your making more at Flight Service than you would have as a CPC at a level 11 facility. Depending on the facility, Level 11 CPC's are making between 100,000 and 108,000 at the bottom of the pay band this year. Im wondering if any Flight Service employees that have been hired in the last 5-10 years are making this much. You can message me if you dont wnat to answer via post. Im not trying to call you out or anything, I'm asking because I have several friends currently in CTI schools around the country, and If six figures is a realistic paycheck working for flight service they might be interested in knowing this info.

This thread was created back in 09.... The pay bands were still in the white book and not as high as today.

Great thread though!
That explains it. I should pay more attention to dates i guess. Is it possible that Flight Service employees will be getting a raise in the near future? (im guessing no, but i figured I would ask)

i'll be the second person to necrothread, but i'm curious about updates, how are things now at lockmart, how's the starting pay, outlook/prognosis for hiring (particularly in prc)

looking for a decent place to possibly bail out of the airlines too. have 13+ years at a 121 regional, 4+ flying ga before that (aerial surveying/photography/mapping) and a bach of airsci from riddle in prc (hence why i'm interested there, love the area, as does the wife)

When I inquired about this in October with Lockheed, the operations manager told me that they are downsizing. There was an opening back in June/July of 2013 but that would be the last for the foreseeable furture due to automation playing a huge role.

Seems like this thread gets revived every year or so, so here it goes. Any new updates with LockMart FSS? Preferably from people on the inside.

I wouldn't mind floating my resume out there if it meant an escape from the airlines too, but I have never once seen an opening in the past three years. Maybe I'm just searching in the wrong places, but is there anyone to get in touch with?

Yeah, I applied to that. One of the HR ladies told me they had a lot of applicants and possibly have more than 40 positions available. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing though..

Are there age requirements for flight service, for if/when they have another round of openings?

I don't recall seeing anything in regards to an age requirement and no clue on another round of openings. This is the first one I've seen in at least a couple years.

Thanks. Man I think I checked out their site like last week or so too, wish I would've seen they had/were going to have openings. Win some/ lose some!

Yeah, I know how you feel. I used to check all the time and then would only check every once in a while. I just happened to see it whilst searching for other jobs.

Anyone know how long the application stays open? I can't find the job posting anymore, but the status still says open. I applied in April and currently hating my current job. So I'm trying to get back into the field of aviation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think it just closed earlier this week so you should probably start hearing something within a week or two. I got an email two days after applying saying a hiring manager wanted to interview me and to fill out some background stuff, but nothing since. Just gotta try and be patient.

Well did you fill it out? Call the help desk and make sure they actually got your background check.

If you have interest in working in flight service, keep eyes on the lockmart website. Right now there is a temp opening for a technical writer in prescott to "research and develop requested training courses for Lockheed Martin Flight Service."

I have zero inside information, but it stands to reason that if they need someone to overhaul their training courses, they plan on having people to train in the near future.
