So after reading the different threads I still had some questions. So here it goes. From the student services website it seems like the FAA will reimburse $93.80 one way or another.

Option 1:
I stay at IB and submit the appropriate items to have the govt card pick up the $52.20 daily rate. Then if I personly purchase any other food items/meals, let's say $200/every 30 days, to makeup for lunches and weekend meals I can submit a voucher to receive the $41.60 meal per diem. Which for 30 days comes out to $1248. Minus my personal expense of $200 giving me $1048 in my bank account.

Option 2:
Locate a place to stay while at the academy and pay the approriate rent. Let's say $500 for 30 days. Then pay for my food/meals, again let's say $350 for 30 days. This puts my personal expense at $850 for 30 days. I submit a voucher to reviece my $93.80 for per diem. At 30 days is $2814 minus my expenses at $850 leaving $1964 in my bank account.

I am trying to figure out if this is the correct way that the FAA will reimburse me depending on what option I choose. Also does the reimbursement get placed in our paycheck?

Anxiously awaiting informed answers to these questions. I really wish this stuff was a little more clear for us.

Reimbursement is a separate direct deposit, NOT part of your paycheck and also per diem is Tax Exempt.

IB IS independent housing, they are in no way sponsored by the government.

You will get 93.80 Regardless of your actual expenses. You must provide a receipt with your lodging it could be $20/day doesn't matter, you still get the full amount. I don't have experience with the gov credit card, it was easy to just throw it on your personal CC and you will get reimbursed. You may file anytime after 14 days from your class start day.

You guys can easily pocket an extra 1500 a month by simply not staying at somewhere like Isola Bella or Kim's. Personally, I enjoyed having an extra 4000 grand in my bank (over 3 months) account by staying at the Warren House instead of the two prior mentioned places. To each his own though...

Do places like the Warren House offer furnished apartments? Kim's Place and IB sound appealing to me because they are fully furnished.

When I stayed at the Warren House it was fully furnished. They had a few different options, but they all had kitchens. I paid right at 500 a month for rent (short term contract), cable, internet, and utilities. They were very accommodating with how long you need the unit. It wasn't like you had to have a traditional three month lease or something. It took 15-20 minutes to get to the academy. You guys are going to only be making like 1000 a month while you are at the academy so SAVE as much from your per diem as possible.

One thing I will say. Yes saving extra $ is very nice. But make sure you are staying with people in your class. Our class of 18 has like 8 or 9 at Isola and maybe 4 or 5 at Kims, but the there are a few staying elsewhere. Stay with classmates so that you can have study groups on weekends or after class unless you want to drive and meet your classmates at IB or Kims, they won't come to you, trust me.

Isola Bella is like five minutes away and you guys won't be studying in groups as much as you think. Most of the academy is how much you are willing to study in your own. There were three other people in my class staying at The Warren House and we studied together a few sessions, but mostly we studied on our own and got together to ride to class or get dinner.

When I said Indeperdant housing I meant places that are not listed on the FAA page of housing providers. Like renting a room/place from someone on Craigslist.

The problem I am running into is furnished places. Do I want to sleep on an air mattress for two months... Also I think it would be nice to stay we're other classmates are staying.
