Touche' and good point...although if someone is bias towards me because I plan on diversifying my FAA career and only stay at my first facility for 5 years or so...well then that is sad! I mean I do plan on AT LEAST 5 years....that's a long time!
It may be and in theory it shouldn't be held against you, but I'll agree with what November Echo said, and keep those plans to yourself at least until AFTER you're CPC.

From my own experience in 2 decades + of watching trainees come and go, those that came here with the intention of staying their whole careers got a bit "extra" consideration from trainers and supervisors, as opposed to those that were unhappy to be here from the beginning, and made it clear that they didn't want to stay long term. People take the attitude of "ah, why should I go the extra mile to help this guy out, when he doesn't want to be here to begin with?"

When I toured the facility...in 2011 when I was an optimistic ATC candidate ready to tackle the world, I was told generally for ZKC it's 2 1/2 - 3 years to certify if you're on the ball.

I heard the same for ZFW (2.5-3yrs if you're on the ball). Still a long time, but at least there are pay bumps along the way.

that's what they told me as well, their training program seems very well laid out, straightfoward, and broken down into lots of little steps so you're always working on something.

fwiw, when I've been in there to watch traffic (a couple of different times) they had a couple of trainees who they said had been there about 2 1/2 yrs and were close to cpc.

Yes, initially your're not making very much, but after D2 you're into some good money and then at CPC you're golden

Please don't use this thread to discuss your TOL's and class dates, etc....if you must, start a new thread under air traffic control facilities general discussion. Please leave these threads to discuss information about the facility itself. I will be moving these posts to a new thread. Thank you for your cooperation.

Anyone have any info with which to set up a visit here? Got a couple days off coming up and I wanted to spend them productively in advance of the March bid...

Any controllers on here at zkc? Heavily considering it and want to know the training situation, facility morale and any other input. Thank you.
