After 3 1/2 years, still rocking the LASIK with 20/20 vision, and no need for cheaters at age 50!
How long does it last for? Are you going to have better than 20\20?Had LASIK done yesterday and my first Post Op appointment this morning. 20/20 vision and I'm good to go back to work on Saturday. I had Custom Wavefront LASIK due to some tests showing I would probably have issues with halos/glare if I went with just the standard procedure. I used Vance Thompson in Sioux Falls and the care was superb. He was one of the first 7 in the United States to perform LASIK and was one of the doctors that testified in Congress to have the procedure passed by the FDA.
COST: $5700. I maxed my FSA this year at $2500 so that will be reimbursed to me. The cost includes two years of post op care and my steroidal/antibiotic drops. If I wouldn't have needed the Wavefront it would have been $4700.
They said that I MAY need readers as I age (I'm 33) but most people need those as they get older. As far as the rest of the vision I should be good for at least 20 years. I talked to a lady who had lasik 20 years ago and she needs glasses now for minor corrections. Her vision was 20/400 before surgery, mine was 20/200, so it makes me wonder if it is because her vision was so bad and that it was done 20 years ago when the technology was still fairly new. My optometrist expects me to correct to 20/15 over the next few weeks/months. I have another post-op in a week and then one in a month and another in 6 months. How long does it last for? I have probably been over zealous on putting drops in just to make sure there is plenty of moisture. I went to lunch with my friend that drove me and started laughing when we were standing in line b/c I could read the menu. It is definitely a procedure I would recommend, the only uncomfortable part was when they put the thing in to hold the eyelids open, other than that, the whole thing lasted about 7 minutes.I had it done two weeks ago. Pretty much same story as everyone above. Very happy I did it. No pain, really not a ton of discomfort, either. Mine was $5300 and I would have done it sooner but I needed my vision to stabilize before I had it done. Literally the second I sat up from the table I already could see better. Obviously things were a bit hazy but compared to my old vision I had 15 minutes before that, it was night and day.
Post op the next day I was 20/20 in both eyes. Had my 2 week checkup today, 20/20 again. Didn't get to 20/15 like some of you! Haven't had any halo vision at night or anything. The only thing is in when I wake up, my eyes are pretty dry. I use a couple Blink Tears drops when I get up and don't have any dryness the rest of the day.
If you are a candidate, I would definitely recommend it. The lump sum is definitely not 'cheap' but if you add up glasses, contacts, eye exams etc. over a number of years the surgery doesn't seem as costly.
iirc, there's a next day, a 3 or 5 day, a 3 month, 6 month, 1 year follow ups. But that was the Air Force and back in 2012 so I could be wrong or it could have changed. Also private doc might be different.I am so jealous! I have been thinking about LASIK for like a year and a half but am nervous that if something goes wrong, there goes my job and my sight. How many follow up appointments do you have?
For me it as the day after, then in one week, then one month, six months, one year and then yearly after thatI am so jealous! I definitely understand the menu scenario! To this day I still try and push my glasses up and as I do it I realize there's nothing there. Wonder how long it'll take for me to stop doing that haha. And I agree, out of the entire process the most uncomfortable part was when they put the thing to hold your eyes open. Basically, a metal tong of some sort that is kind of pressing against your eye... but my numbing drops kicked in about 5 seconds later and after that I didn't feel a thing. The laser portion for each eye took 22 seconds. But with prep and all I'd say about 15 mins.I have probably been over zealous on putting drops in just to make sure there is plenty of moisture. I get that for sure. I was nervous of that (as I'm sure many are) the whole time. Just make sure you go somewhere that is reputable and knows what they are doing.I am so jealous! I'd say if your vision is not terrible and you don't mind wearing glasses/contacts, then it's not necessary. But, waking up in the morning and not having to reach for my glasses or putting contacts in my eyes has been amazing. Is it worth the risk when your vision is not bad like you guys? I'd love to have 20/15 or 20/10
