Have a quick question...I'm not currently in the FAA or in NATCA but does someone in LWOP status that gets rehired, does their seniority keep rolling as far as bidding for days off and working up to 15 years to get the extra week of vacation etc...Article 83 (seniority) in the red book just says "Seniority will be determined by the Union".

NATCA bargaining unit time is established by reference to SF-50s. The date you arrive at your first facility would start your seniority, and the SF-50 showing your removal would end it.

With that logic, what's the point of being in LWOP status for a long duration then vs just being fully separated? What does someone really gain from being on LWOP status?

I am trying to find somewhere that addresses leave issues. When I was unable to work for awhile due to a sick family member, there were certain parameters I had to stay in as far as lwop goes so it did not affect my seniority, medical benefits, and retirement calculations. As of yet I can't find the informations, which may have changed as its like 4 years ago, but if I do I will attach it on here

My experience with LWOP in the private sector is it's usually used in circumstances where the person doesn't have any vacation time left, but it was rarely approved from the people I know that tried to use it. You still need to be an employee of that company to utilize it though. The next closest thing to that I can think of is a voluntary furlough. You're still on the books as an employee and can come back at your discretion, you just aren't getting paid in the meantime.
