Welcome to SM and thanks for the advice. It helps to know what to expect and what I'm going to be getting into once I get there.

I was also wondering about getting to and from work. Do most people at ZLA live in the Antelope Valley? I'm in the San Fernando Valley now, and it doesn't seem too far of a drive to Palmdale, but don't know if that will become a drag after a while.

I just got an offer for an interview for ZLA.

Ironically, I live within walking distance of ZSE...

Oh well, guess that's how it goes with the federal government.

Can anyone tell me anything about the facility or the Palmdale area isn't already mentioned?

Hey guys, recently graduated from CTI and am going to ZLA to get a tour of their facility in the the next two weeks and was wondering if anyone knows of someone I could ask to hand my resume off to once I get there so maybe they will remember me by some small chance once hiring comes around... Is a manager a good person to talk to or are they usually pretty busy? Thanks for any help and good luck to all trying to get in!

Usually the training manager/department is the one that gives the tours, so they would be as good a person to ask as any. Make sure you dress neat and professional. The controllers and trainees dont always do, but they're already hired. It's important to make a good impression especially if the training manager is the one who is giving the tour and receiving a resume from you. You don't want them to remember you for the wrong reasons.

Certainly, I got the iron out and ready to go already... ha, thanks for the advice. Now just time to look through this site for some good questions to ask him. I remember reading some a while back but should have wrote them down

Afternoon! I'm currently at the academy in non radar, heading to ZLA soon. How are things looking? I hear were on a waiting list due to ERAM, no biggie. I'm more worried about finding a quality place to live when I get there and would appreciate any advice about ANYTHING from the academy today to my arrival at ZLA. Your input would be great, thank you.

I was at ZLA for 12 years. For good places to live, avoid Palmdale east of the 14, because it's a dump. The best apartments closest to decent shopping are in Lancaster, south of about Ave. J and west of Sierra Highway. If you have family or can afford to rent or buy a house, the best are in far west palmdale west of the 14, up to the Quartz Hill area which has the better schools.

If you get tired of the high desert, there's also the Santa Clarita area which is a 30-60 minute commute and more expensive, but is a higher class area and maybe better quality of life for a family.

If you currently have a TOL for ZLA and would instead like to head to ZJX instead please send me a PM. I have already completed all the coordination with the Manager and he is on board. If you are serious and interested in the details PM me.
