All I can find on this post is about people waiting to be hired and bs so can anyone tell me more of the lifestyle/places to live down there? I'm hoping to go to a facility where I'd eventually be able to have land more towards the country. I'm too accustomed to the country lifestyle I don't really want to be living in a city.

ZME is one of the few centers that is in the city. It's located at the airport in the crappiest part of town. Plenty of people live out in the country but you are looking at 30 minute commute or more. Memphis is fairy small so you can be in the country within 30 minutes. Also look at North Mississippi or even Arkansas.

I work at the tracon. It's cheap to live here. City folks either live in Downtown or Midtown usually. We chose to live in mid-town for a nice balance of night life and neighborhood lifestyle. My commute is usually 8-12 minutes depending on traffic. North ms is good for country living, but you'll have to pay state income tax. East and north east of memphis is pretty country. Arlington, Oakland, Lakeland, are all in the country but growing. Those are 30-45 minute commutes. Did I mention it's cheap here? I don't hunt or fish but a lot of people I work with do and it sound like this is a decent place for it. I'm more into active outdoor stuff. Hiking and biking are ok here, there are several trail inside or just outside the city, but it's pretty flat. If you're willing to drive a couple hours then the options are endless. I'm going backpacking in a few weeks with a coworker in Arkansas. It's awesome there.

If you like to travel memphis is kind of a bummer. Flying out of here requires a layover somewhere because we're no hub anymore and is priced accordingly. You can fly southwest, delta, american, united, frontier, allegiant. A small company called Glo Airlines just started running routes direct to New Orleans and there's another flying out of Olive Branch that goes to somewhere in Florida.

The beach is about a 6 hour drive. New Orleans is a similar drive. Mountains in Arkansas are 2.5-4 depending on where you go. Nashville is about 2.5 hrs drive. Little Rock is 2.

Food is religion here. The craft beer seen is growing quickly. We now have 4 local breweries and 1 brewpub that doesn't distribute and a new brewery set to open later this year.

That's about all I can think of.

Any thoughts about living on Mud Island?
Great for single or no school age kids. The schools outside of private are nowhere I would want my kids to be.

Lots to do nearby, go running/walking/biking along the river just outside your front door. Very laid back style, lots of golf carts viewing the sunset during comfortable times of the year.

I lived there for two and a half years after getting to ZME, enjoyed it greatly. Then I got married with children and bought a place in Arlington.

Thank you. I think we'll be getting some place further east. Germantown ish
Good bit of folks live in the germantown/Collierville area. Good schools and growing. Really anywhere east of Cordova is good. Also some that live in North ms.

Can't go too wrong as long as your not in Memphis, or in the "Shelby county school district", aka Memphis schools.

Don't forget to strap on your vest and side piece when you venture off Mud Island.
As long as I stayed on or south of Willis Ave I felt mostly safe. North of that, I rarely ventured, never after dark though.

Raleigh is a wonderful part of Memphis, cheap homes to be had all over. [emoji1]

We’re understaffed but not as bad as most places. Lots of academy placements the last year.

Look into Fayette County.

CPC transfer to ZME here. What kind of work week schedules are most people running? I'm a transfer from an approach control so what lenght of initial classroom time may I expect? I toured recently and everyone seems very friendly and welcoming. I look forward to working with everyone soon. Thanks.
