I took a tour of BNA a few weeks ago. You'll like it! I live in Nashville now, but I'm going to KTYS. Weird how that works.

What is the current staffing situation there? Are they overstaffed? Do they have alot of trainees?

Nashville is adequately staffed but they have alot of trainees and alot of retirement eligible controllers. Nashville is a nice place to live and TN is the least taxed state in the country.

Hi everyone. I was just looking for some information about BNA. In March I visited and spoke w/ Mr Booker. Does anyone know if he is still there, or if there is anyone else that I should get in contact w/ if I would like to come to BNA after graduation. Thanks.

Mike Booker isn't a controller but one of the admin specialist and also a car salesman for CarMax. You probably need to talk to the Ops Manager or Facility Manager.

Inexperienced individuals don't do well at facilities like BNA or busier facilities, you would improve your chances for success by going to a ATC-7 facility or lower, then after you certify moving up to one of the busier facilities.

When I was there the manager was Sheri Jensen, I've heard that the ops manager was just recently changed.
I believe Sheri is still there; she's who I talked to last year. I'm from Nashville but was assigned to Spirit of St. Louis because BNA was full. My wife is from STL, so it'll work out just fine for us.

BNA is great, and the guys that work there are great as well. Look for Doug and BJ; I was in class with their kids in elementary school :). Doug is a fantastic trainer.

What's the TRACON like in Nashville? I'm currently in the Air Force stationed at Shaw, and looking for possibilities for when my enlistment is up.

It's your standard radar room, though since you'll be part of an up/down facility, you'd better get used to watching the birds out the window as well as on a green screen. They don't have the latest equipment, but they're only a generation behind. When I was there in November, traffic levels were low enough that they were only running an east and west sector of traffic on the scopes, so there were only about 4 guys actively monitoring (one was in training).

Nashville got STARS installed back in 2004 (they use to have ARTS 3A) so they have the nice new radar displays. The Tracon runs East and West Arrival/Departure, and Satellite (which is more often than not combined with East Approach/Departure), and a Final Controller. When traffic is slow they will combine Final to the arrival/departure scopes.

I don't know if they still do, but when Pat was the Training/QA guy they had a good training department, the Radar Simulation problems were really good (I should know I wrote most of them). Nashville has some good people that work there, like most facilities there are issues, but for the most part it was a good place to work.
