Evening all. I'm new to this forum, but have been interested in ATC radio comms since early adulthood. That is, since the "original" United started giving their captains the discretion to broadcast it over the aircraft's PA system. FTR, I'm neither pilot nor controller (an unfortunate eye injury as a child banned me from being a pilot for life). But I've had a good career in IT. And I did a lot of air travel during that career. I've also discovered I had an almost "savant like" thing for sounds and comms like ATC.... anything with a logic to it. And I don't know why, but the "sound" thing seems to have attached itself to, of all things, jets and get engines. I can tell the make an model of most modern jet engines, simply by listening to its sound. If I ever were to hit the lottery and could buy my own aircraft, will I pick the engines that are the most fuel efficient? The easiest to maitain? The least costly? No, of course not! I'll pick the engines that sound the coolest! :D

I thought I going absolutely nuts, there, for a while... and then, I discovered YouTube. Mindblowing it is... all the videos on "Engine's starting, take offs, landings, etc. etc...

Anyway, hope I get to "cyber meet" many of you and discuss all things ATC related. :)

Best Regards,
ORDTaffs27 ( TAFFS - the original Outer marker for 27R at ORD when I first started listening to ATC).

UGH, we can be jerks sometimes. ATCers are not the kindest and most welcoming people in the world. We're thick skinned and even rougher on each other than outsiders. Don't let any horrible responses you'll get on here (and you will get them, I promise) make you any less interested in aviation. Hell, I'll probably get chewed up for being nice to you. Welcome to our world.

If you have any particular questions, feel free to PM me. I can't promise I'll respond right away, as I check this site about as often as I change my oil, but if I can help, I will. Perhaps a few others will do the same. Ignore the rest, you're just feeding the trolls by responding.

If you don't already, listen to liveatc.net. And welcome to SM.

No worries! I have just as thick a skin, being a veteran of several different V-Bulletin forums. And yes, I have listened to liveatc.net all along, since its inception. I'm pleased to see most of the frequencies are "up" these days.

Thanks for the welcome. Will enjoy the "discussions." :D
