Hey guys,

I am currently 3 months from separating active duty as a controller and have a TOL ready and waiting for when I get out (prior experience bid, no schoolhouse). I want to get the hiring process started ASAP but HR says I can't get medical/security clearances until I return to the US (currently stationed in England). Has anyone been in my position before? Can I get a Class 2 physical from an FAA AME in Europe somewhere (there are many listed on the faa.gov website) and have the results sent to an AME in the states for verification and so I can get started? I don't really want to fly back to the US just for a medical exam. If it isn't at all possible, how long did the pre-employment process take for those of you who were prior military? Any info or comments would be greatly appreciated as I just want an estimated timeline for this transition. Thank you all!

I looked through the list of AMEs from my CIL and the only OCONUS ones were in Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands atleast from what stuck out to me. There are a few things you need to do within a small timeframe. You have to fill out a medexpress online which only the HR team will have to send to you. You have to get the physical and drug test done within a certain number of days from each other. It’ll be really hard to take leave to fly out and back and with the cost of a last minute ticket it might not even be worth it. Security clearance is going to be hard because you’ll have to get fingerprints done and if they don’t do that on your base you’ll have a hard time finding one in EU.
I was too far out for the bid back in March 2018 but I got in on the December bid and it went like this... Dec - Applied; Mar - TOL & CIL; Apr - MMPI/Drug Test/Physical done; I’m still waiting on my medical clearance to be approved because my FS has been on vacation for a while and hasn’t gotten to me yet. So it’ll take some time.
