Just to clarify, you are saying this from only from the tower perspective, correct?
When working radar in different situations, it’s a great tool. Not by any means a wasted transmission.
I'd like an example(s) of when you'll tell a VFR to maintain visual separation in a radar environment.

Class "B" airspace
I agree with you, but probably for different reasons than I should.
But my followup....is it required to tell a VFR to maintain visual separation from an IFR if they are merging while in Class C airspace?

Really? I know nothing about b. When do you have to do it? I’m curious. When normally you would do to ifr/ifr?
VFR with all turbojets if less than 1.5 miles apart/500 feet vertical,
A VFR with someone weighing more than 19,000lbs IFR or VFR if less than 1.5 miles apart/500 feet vertical,
VFR and IFR/VFR that weigh 19,000lbs or less is just target resolution or 500 feet.
