Currently going through RTF and started sims, looking for tips and tricks about working radar. Obviously will learn a lot during OJT back at my facility.

Heard one so far:
-If a plane is going 130 kts, the plane will go 13 miles in 6 minutes or 6.5 miles in 3 minutes give or take.
-Also posted to r/ATC and got a lot of good tips from that post.

No experience in radar so just looking for some tips that you radar controllers use often.

Thanks!

Use standard speeds you can do quick math on (310,280,250,210,180) to have controlled compression when feeding your final.
Know your book work (divergence, wake turbulence separation, airspace, etc.)
Before you give a control instruction, know what is more important (speed, turn, descent/climb). Example: “DAL123, reduce speed to 210 then descend and maintain 7,000.”
