At my facility there has been constant talk/rumors that there is going to be a big hiring boom this summer. My manager even drops little nuggets like "just keep going until August and then you'll have some relief". I hope it is true...this limited time off thing is killing me right now. Has anyone else heard these rumors or is it just me?

what facility are you at?

in order to get relief by august you would have to have individuals at Oklahoma right now....

So.... you must not be at a center....

Lockheed does not have any major hiring plans. The official word is that our current staffing is just about where management wants it. As veteran FAA specialists retire, most will not be replaced in the near term. There are no plans to hold an academy either. If attrition leaves openings facilities will hire 1 to 2 people here and there as needed directly to the facility. GA traffic has been declining at a steady rate of 20% or more a year for the past decade which has been hard on flight service. We would probably only see large scale hiring if GA traffic began increasing dramatically.

The official word on the back pay is that it is still being worked out. The department of labor interviewed employees and first said it appeared to be an open and shut case against Lockheed. However, their preliminary report they issued sided with Lockheed and found that the company didn't do anything wrong. The issue was then elevated up to a higher level in the department of labor for further review.
