Hi,

I leave for BMT in a few weeks, and am excited to say I will be headed to Keesler afb after to for ATC tech school. I obviously have a million questions, most of which I'll just wait to find out along the way myself, but does anyone who was at Keesler within the past few years know how the internet works there? Or if internet is even necessary during school? Is there internet in the dorms? or are whatever textbooks/resources given to us enough for the courses we have to take?

I will have my phone if I need to look up something minor, and don't mind living simple for the few months I'll be there. I want to concentrate on schooling while I'm there anyway. I just don't know if it's even necessary to take a computer.

Hope someone knows something about this! Thanks!

A computer is not required or needed for tech school. Each dorm has access to computers as needed for things not related to tech school. Internet is something you will have to get installed and pay for in every dorm you are in, but is not allowed at tech school. Your phone or stand alone device is the only way to get internet in the dorms. There is a couple places within walking distance to the dorms to get wifi.

Also, as of two 3 years ago, they had WI-FI hot spots in the dorm's common room but you have to pay an obscene amount of money for it. I think it was $50 a month. Some people were able to pick up a signal in their room (very few) and for them it was probably worth it, but if you have to walk to use it anyway you might as well just go to one of the free hot spots on base.

the internet will be the last thing on your mind. Plus you will have a smart phone I'm sure.

I dont know if your still looking for answers, but if you are i was in Keesler last year.

They had internet in the dorms, and youll be in the 334th which are the newest dorms there. The internet is crappy when everyone is awake because everyone uses them, but its able for you to purchase. You can walk to the fishbowl or somewhere to pick up wifi if you really need it. If you are anything like me your going to think you need internet for fun or etc, but really you dont, you have a blast with your classmates and your 3 day weekends that you get are a blast, you wont be bored.

Anything you need for class work you can get from the school house so there is no really necessity for the internet. Hope i didnt answer too late, even though im sure i did!

The dorms are really nice. I was there for D day when we moved the entire squadron into the new dorms for the first time. The move with that many people was a wreck and sucked. Though, the dorms were nicer.

And yep the internet sucks!

And the 3 day weekends are really fun! Especially with the beaches near by and the casinos. (use caution entering the water)
