    CSX - Time to Hiring

Does anyone know how long it takes for CSX to notify individuals about their application status, and then how long it takes to start training? Looking for a ballpark estimate. I applied for a dispatcher position that closed about a week ago in NY.

Also, during the application I took an online assessment, kind of like a simplified AT-SAT/Biographical Assessment. Is there any further testing before training, or is that the only aptitude test? Felt pretty good taking the first one.

For me, it was about 3 months from application to start training. I think that is about standard. At this point if you are lucky enough to be selected, you will have a drug test and then scheduled for an interview with probably 15 or so other people. Hope you haven't done drugs in the last few months bc it is a hair test, not urine.

That is the only testing you will have. They did have us take the number sequence test again at the interview but I don't know why. Anyway, have fun with extra board life if you get picked up. But good luck!

Thanks! Funny that they had you do number sequence again. That seemed to be pretty easy. Won't have to study too hard for the drug test! I'll take the extra board over my current job any day of the week, literally.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of background/how experienced were your colleagues when they first started? The position I applied for has 4 openings (allegedly), and I think that might help my chances a bit. As for the interview, does that normally take place at the location you've applied for, or is it some other CSX location? I live less than 10 minutes from the location I desire.

The center I worked at, I would say out of the 70 or so dispatchers, probably 55-60 had previous railroad experience. There were a few that had military experience and a couple like myself that just had ATC experience. As far as I know, your interview will be near that location. Mine was. Probably be a recruiter and a manager or two from the facility. I can tell you the railroad is a lot about who you know when getting jobs so if you know someone that could help you out, better give em a call.

Could you keep us updated on your progress? I just recently applied to a similar job.

Will do! Status has been the same for what seems like an eternity now, but if I hear anything, you'll know.

Look into the city transit companies at well ie New York, DC, San Fran. Their dispatchers are called Rail Controller or Train Controller. Here is a link to a site that most transit agencies post jobs to. And most pay well im interviewing for a position in San Fran...pay is over 100k.

    Hope this helps

Just got my thanks but no thanks email from CSX out of the blue. Luckily I'm interviewing for an airline ops position next week! Anyway, thanks for the link. I always keep an eye out for Metro North.

And for potential CSX candidates, this is nearly 6 months after I first applied. Sure is a slow process.

Yeah I know searching for jobs is a tedious process but keep at it. Im finally getting interviews after years of applying to at least 6 to 10 jobs a week. I have had 8 withiin last month and 2 offers. 2 ATC and six Rail Controller jobs. GOOD LUCK on your interview.
